TL;DR: Results from the present experiment suggest that subjects have the option to prevent the speaker’s-voice attribute from being stored with the contents of what is said when such processing would interfere with other cognitive operations.
Abstract: The voice-connotation hypothesis of Geiselman and Bellezza (1976, 1977) states that a speaker’s voice is sometimes remembered without intent because the connotation of the voice automatically influences the meaning of what is said. Results from the present experiment suggest that subjects have the option to prevent the speaker’s-voice attribute from being stored with the contents of what is said when such processing would interfere with other cognitive operations.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the relationship between mobility and accessibility, and find that planning policies that favor one, act against the other, and the 2 can be seen as opposites.
Abstract: The concepts of 'accessibility' and 'mobility' are central to urban and transport planning and, although they are often used interchangeably, they convey fundamentally different meanings. For example, mobility, especially when excessive, can have a negative connotation, whereas accessibility is always seen as making a positive contribution to a community. In investigating the relationship between mobility and accessibility, it emerges that planning policies that favor one, act against the other, and the 2 can be seen as opposites.
TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined how message meaning relates to current social media challenges and concluded that people who utilize social media have a higher propensity to read the news and become more authentic by sharing it.
Abstract: Problems with meaning arise when symbols interact in digital communication on social media between users. Different messages may be interpreted differently due to symbolic exchanges between social media users. This paper examines how message meaning relates to current social media challenges. The data used to address the issue was obtained from an online survey of social media users, and the semiotics method was employed (denotation and connotation). This study concludes that people who utilize social media have a higher propensity to read the news and become more authentic by sharing it. To read social media text messages denotatively has ideological consequences for users and connotative implications. Social media messaging's ideological impact creates the purpose of action (change of view on an issue, for example, COVID-19 vaccination). This paper contributes to digital media literacy, which develops critical thinking abilities based on digital knowledge by choosing to read news content. Besides, this paper contributes to the capacity to critically create content based on digital culture (positive news content) and offer critical commentary based on digital ethics (politeness in providing language). This article discusses the benefits and importance of news content comments and the ability to share news content critically based on digital safety by safely evaluating information before sharing it.
TL;DR: In this article, Barthes' notions of denotation, connotation, and myth in visual communication are used to analyze visual representations in environmental discourse analysis, and three examples of such representations are provided.
Abstract: Visual representations remain under-studied in environmental discourse analysis. Drawing on Barthes’ notions of denotation, connotation and myth in visual communication, I provide three examples of...
TL;DR: In this article , the concept and connotation of complex product design is expounded systematically, and different types of design are discussed, including universal design, axiomatic design, TRIZ and general design.
Abstract: Abstract Design is a high-level and complex thinking activity of human beings, using existing knowledge and technology to solve problems and create new things. With the rise and development of intelligent manufacturing, design has increasingly reflected its importance in the product life cycle. Firstly, the concept and connotation of complex product design is expounded systematically, and the different types of design are discussed. The four schools of design theory are introduced, including universal design, axiomatic design, TRIZ and general design. Then the research status of complex product design is analyzed, such as innovative design, digital design, modular design, reliability optimization design, etc. Finally, three key scientific issues worthy of research in the future are indicated, and five research trends of “newer, better, smarter, faster, and greener” are summarized, aiming to provide references for the equipment design and manufacturing industry.
