Abstract: This research monograph investigates the concept of "meaning" through an analysis of the term "connotation". Part 1 traces the history of "connotation" from its first documented use by William of Ockham in the 14th century, at which time philosophy and grammar were seen to complement each other, in the belief that the nature of things was reflected in grammar. Major changes in the meaning and usage of the term, which reflect the evolution of the concepts of meaning, are highlighted. Part 2 analyses the contemporary problems connected with the concept of "connotation" in linguistics, semiotics and literary criticism. It presents a discussion of the considerations involved in the analysis of meaning in natural language and stresses the need to avoid reductions that may impoverish the study of semiosis. Possibilities for dealing with "meaning" when it extends beyond the word or sentence into the area of textual analysis are presented.

TL;DR: There is a great deal of confusion concerning teaching at the university level- Labeling it "teaching" and those who do it "Teachers" is part of the problem as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: There is a great deal of confusion concerning teaching at the university level- Labeling it “teaching” and those who do it “teachers” is part of the problem. To teach implies a transfer of information, and that is not the main purpose of higher education. In fact, those who teach in universities are called “professors,” because their primary function is to profess an intellectual discipline. The most relevant meaning of the act of professing is the Middle English connotation of being bound by a vow or the even older Latin one that refers to one’s faith in, or expressing allegiance to, some idea of goal.
TL;DR: The investigation proves that the teaching design based on artificial intelligence technology can be applied to teaching activities, thereby improving the learning efficiency of students and the teaching efficiency of teachers.
Abstract: The influence of artificial intelligence technology on teaching design is explored to improve teaching efficiency. First, artificial intelligence is introduced and its impacts on teaching design are analyzed. Second, the connotation of the paradigm of teaching design and the paradigm shift for teaching design are explored using the paradigm shift analysis framework. Finally, the changes in teaching design under artificial intelligence are analyzed, and the impacts of artificial intelligence on teaching activities are investigated. The results show that the application of artificial intelligence technology has led to different levels of change in the six elements of teaching design, including teaching objectives, service objects (teachers and students), teaching content, teaching media, teaching environment, and teaching evaluation. The connotation and paradigm shift of the teaching design are introduced from the four elements based on the artificial intelligence technology. It is found that artificial intelligence technology can enhance the learning ability and cognitive ability of students to a certain extent while improving the teaching efficiency and learning efficiency. The investigation proves that the teaching design based on artificial intelligence technology can be applied to teaching activities, thereby improving the learning efficiency of students and the teaching efficiency of teachers.
