Abstract: A process for incorporating a clarifying agent into a semi-crystalline resin is provided whereby a clarifying agent selected from compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein p is 0 or 1, m and n are independently 0-3, and R is, at each occurrence, independently selected from C 1-8 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, hydroxy, halogen, C 1-6 alkylthio, C 1-6 alkylsulfoxy and a 4 or 5 membered alkyl group forming a carbocyclic ring with adjacent carbon atoms of the unsaturated parent ring, and wherein the clarifying agent is in the form of a powder characterized by a d 97 of 30 microns or less, and a mean particle size of 15 microns or less, is blended with the polyolefin resin, at a temperature above 170° C. until the clarifying agent is dissolved in the molten resin.

Abstract: The invention relates to an aggregated silica gel which has been produced from silica gel particles having a particle size of 1 to 20 ν, a surface of 200 to 1000 m2/g and a specific pore volume of 0.4 to 2.5 ml/g and a binding agent selected from synthetic or natural phyllosilicate, pyrogenic silicon dioxide and organic polymers soluble in water or dispersible in water. Aggregation takes place by spray-drying a suspension having 1 to 25 % solids. The product is suitable as a matting agent for coatings, as an antiblocking agent for polymer films and as a beer clarifying agent.

Abstract: Clarification of cashew apple juice by removing phenols and tannins is an important step in cashew apple processing. The common clarifying agent recommended presently is poly vinyl pyrolidone (PVP), a costly chemical. A study to evaluate the efficacy of different clarifying agents, and to find a cheap substitutes for PVP showed that ‘sago’, which is a natural commercial starch preparation, has considerable potential in this respect. Juice clarified by sago was not only qualitatively similar to that clarified by PVP, but also had a higher recovery percentage.
