Abstract: A keyboard having the ability to predictively display different characters in association with its various keys within a variety of predefined character set layouts, based upon either the character preceeding an insertion point in a corresponding text field on a display or the last character entered from the keyboard is disclosed. Although each key of the keyboard is capable of displaying numerous different characters, each key represents only one character at a time and each character is displayed at only one key location. The user can also manually change character set layouts. When a user selects a particular key or selects an insertion point within the text field, all keys are updated to display a character set layout that corresponds to the set of characters from which the user would be most likely to want to select a character from next, based upon the frequency of that particular character combination being used in either a particular language or application. The organization of the characters within each character set layout is also based on the frequency of those characters being used in either a particular language or application. The keyboard can be implemented to operate as either a touch-sensitive display or as a collection of interactive images on any of a number of different displays. The keyboard can also be used in conjunction with the special function keys or buttons that are common to computer system for performing function-character command operations.
TL;DR: In this article, a character sequence is used to search a dictionary for a set of completion candidates that begin with the character sequence, and the dictionary retrieves completion candidates from the dictionary by determining which completion candidates in the dictionary are more likely to be the ones that the user is attempting to type.
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention a user can rapidly enter and search for data, such as text, using a data entry system by entering one or more characters on a digital keyboard with a pointing device. With the digital keyboard the user can create words, phrases and other character sequences. As the user enters a character sequence, a mechanism for character prediction visually informs the user of which set of characters on the digital keyboard are most likely to have the character that the user wishes to next enter as part of the text. In another aspect of the present invention, as the user forms a character sequence (partial text entry), the character sequence is used to search a dictionary for a set of completion candidates that begin with the character sequence. The data entry system retrieves completion candidates from the dictionary by determining which completion candidates in the dictionary are more likely to be the ones that the user is attempting to type. A rapid navigation system provides for enhanced navigation and retrieval of completion candidates from the dictionary.
TL;DR: In this article, a method for interrelating character strings so that incomplete input character strings can be completed by a selection of a presented character string involves computing contextual associations between multiple character strings based upon co-occurrence of character strings relative to each other in documents present in the character entry system, in response to inputting of a specified threshold of individual characters.
Abstract: A method, performed in a character entry system, for interrelating character strings so that incomplete input character strings can be completed by a selection of a presented character string involves computing contextual associations between multiple character strings based upon co-occurrence of character strings relative to each other in documents present in the character entry system, in response to inputting of a specified threshold of individual characters, identifying at least one selectable character string from among the computed contextual associations that can compete the incomplete input character string in context; and providing the identified at least one selectable character string to a user for selection.
TL;DR: In this paper, a component character table is created in which characters occurring in each of the condensed texts are registered without duplication, and a text body search is executed for extracting a document which satisfies query condition imposed on the search term by consulting the texts of the documents extracted through the component characters table search and the condensed text search.
Abstract: High-speed full document retrieval method and system capable of providing result of retrieval within practically acceptable short search time. Upon registration of documents in a document database, condensed texts are created by decomposing each of textual character strings of the documents to be registered into fragmental character strings in dependence on character species and by checking mutual inclusion relations existing among the fragmental character strings. A component character table is created in which characters occurring in each of the condensed texts are registered without duplication. The condensed texts and the component character table are registered in the data base together with the texts of the documents to be registered. Upon retrieval of a document containing a search term designated by a user, a component character table search is first executed to extract those documents which contain all species of characters constituting the search term by consulting the component character table, and subsequently a condensed text search is executed by consulting the condensed texts of the documents. Finally, a text body search is executed for extracting a document which satisfies query condition imposed on the search term by consulting the texts of the documents extracted through the component character table search and the condensed text search.
TL;DR: In this paper, a character server allows users to download characters from the character server and feature the characters in various games, and characters of different players can notify characters within a range permitted beforehand regarding their own locations in different games or different virtual spaces, and can send messages one to another.
Abstract: Characters set corresponding to users are registered in a character server, so the users can download characters from the character server and feature the characters in various games. Also, characters of different players can notify characters of players within a range permitted beforehand regarding their own locations in different games or different virtual spaces, and can send messages one to another. Further, in addition to the appearance of the character, attributes of the character and items which the player have can be stored in the character server, and used throughout various games. Thus, the same characters can be featured in various types of game programs.
