Abstract: SUMMARY Collections in moderately deep water (200-400 m) by trawling, bottom set lines and with traps”in the vicinity of New Caledonia and New Hebrides, have resulted in sfty one species of fishes. Fifteen are recognized as new. The high number of new species can be explained by a fishing rather unusual carried on the outer reef slope which is steep and by trawling on the unprospected shelf off island of Pines which is rocky and corallous. Typical Fishes of these areas pertain to the genera Aiclopus, Clilouoplitalmus, Cyttomimus, Beinbradium, Duacoiietta, Pteropsaron, Peristedion. Caught at the same depths in other regions of the Pacific, Monocentris Champsodon, Chelidopema were not found. Three new sharks belong to the genus Squalus and lago.

Abstract: A specimen of the Indo-Pacific cube boxfish Ostracion cubicus and two specimens of the Indo-Pacific gaper Champsodon vorax were collected from off the coast of Lebanon. This constitutes the first record of the boxfish in the region and confirms the establishment of a population of the gaper in the Mediterranean. TL;DR: Examination of Champsodon specimens deposited in the National Collection at Tel Aviv University revealed the previously unknown presence of C. nudivittis in the Red Sea, which suggests the species may have entered the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal.
Abstract: The Indo West Pacific nakedband gaper, Champsodon nudivittis, is recorded for the first time from Israel on the basis of a single specimen collected off Ashdod, southern Israel. This species was previously recorded in the Mediterranean from eastern Turkey. Examination of Champsodon specimens deposited in the National Collection at Tel Aviv University revealed the previously unknown presence of C. nudivittis in the Red Sea. This presence suggests the species may have entered the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal.
TL;DR: Based on fishery resources survey data collected in the northern waters of the South China Sea using a calibrated Simrad EK500 echosounder on board R/V “Beidou" from December 1997 to June 1999, the authors assesses the stocks of 58 species of 5 non-commercial small-size taxonomical groups (Apogonidae, Leiognathus, Myctophidae, Champsodon and Bregmacerotidae) in the waters.
Abstract: Based on fishery resources survey data collected in the northern waters of the South China Sea using a calibrated Simrad EK500 echosounder on board R/V “Beidou" from December 1997 to June 1999, this article assesses the stocks of 58 species of 5 non-commercial small-size taxonomical groups—Apogonidae, Leiognathus, Myctophidae, Champsodon and Bregmacerotidae in the waters. The results show that they have relatively abundant stocks in the northern waters of the South China Sea, the average values being 18.5×104t,26.1×104t,22.3×104t,17.6×104t and 4.5×104t in spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively. In addition, the article also analyzes the regional distribution and seasonal variation of the stock densities of the species.
