Abstract: In this series of articles, the board members of ChemSusChem discuss recent research articles that they consider of exceptional quality and importance for sustainability. In this entry, Prof. Gabriele Centi comments on recent results on non-oxidative conversion of methane to ethylene and aromatics. The discussion takes into account technical, economical, and sustainability perspectives, and briefly comments on the role of shale gas in future chemical production scenarios.
