Improving the effectiveness of peer code review in identifying security defects

Abstract: Prior studies found peer code review useful in identifying security defects. That is why most of the commercial and open-source software (OSS) projects embraced peer code review and mandated the use of it in the software development life cycle. However, despite conducting mandatory peer code review practices, many security-critical OSS projects such as Chromium, Mozilla, and Qt are reporting a high number of post-release vulnerabilities to the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database. Practitioners may wonder if there is any missing piece in the puzzle that leads code reviews to miss those security defects. Therefore, the primary objective of this dissertation study is to improve the effectiveness of peer code review in identifying security defects. To meet this goal, I plan to empirically investigate: (i) why security defects escape code reviews, (ii) what are the challenges developers face to conduct effective security code reviews, (iii) how to build effective security code review strategy, and (iv) how to make effective utilization of security experts during code reviews.

TL;DR: 1985 Ministerial Regulation Number 134 of 2016 is a form of ratification of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code 2002 (ISPS Code, 2002), the objective is to establish a consistent standard framework for evaluating risk and enabling the government to compensate for changes in threats through measures appropriate safety measures.
Abstract: DOI: 10.25041/lajil.v3i1.1985 Ministerial Regulation Number 134 of 2016 is a form of ratification of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code 2002 (ISPS Code, 2002), the objective of which is to establish a consistent standard framework for evaluating risk and enabling the government to compensate for changes in threats through measures appropriate safety measures. In its development, there are several regulations related to implementing the 2002 ISPS Code in Indonesia. These regulations were formed by adjusting the standard regulations in the 2002 ISPS Code with the safety conditions of ships and ports in Indonesia. The problem is, Indonesia has several large ports that operate as international ports in international trade.

TL;DR: In this paper, the web security has been enhanced using additional security code and an enhanced frame work and administrator of site is required to specify the security code for particular date and time, on user end user would be capable to login and view authentic code allotted to them during particular time slot.
Abstract: In our proposed work the web security has been enhanced using additional security code and an enhanced frame work. Administrator of site is required to specify the security code for particular date and time. On user end user would be capable to login and view authentic code allotted to them during particular time slot. This work would be better in comparison of tradition researches in order to prevent sql injection attack and cross script because proposed work is not just considering the security, it is also focusing on the performance of security system. This system is considering the lot of security dimensions. But in previous system there was focus either on sql injection or cross script. Proposed research is providing versatile security and is available with low time consumption with less probability of unauthentic access.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method of regaining an original Card Security Code, CSC, from a temporary CSC used in a card-based transaction, where the CSC has been generated by previously applying a minimal perfect hash function to the original CSC as well as a first data seed.
Abstract: The present disclosure inter alia presents a method of regaining an original Card Security Code, CSC, from a temporary CSC used in a card based transaction. In one embodiment, the method comprises obtaining (610) a temporary CSC, wherein the temporary CSC has been generated by previously applying a minimal perfect hash function to the CSC as well as a first data seed; obtaining (620) a second data seed, the second data seed being a same data seed as the first data seed; and applying (630) a same minimal perfect hash function to the obtained second data seed together with each one of several CSCs from a stored list of available CSCs until a match is found between the obtained temporary CSC and one CSC from the stored list of available CSCs.

TL;DR: In this article, an integrated system of dynamic security code (DSC) which can change the security code of the prepaid, debit or credit card (payment card) is presented.
Abstract: FIELD: generating and updating security codes for use with credit and debit cards.SUBSTANCE: said invention is an integrated system of "dynamic security code" (DSC-system), which can change the security code of the prepaid, debit or credit card (payment card). DSC-system provides values of dynamic protective code (DSC-value), which can have limited use. DSC values provided by said DSC system, can be calculated using different methodologies and can be used within existing standard payment card infrastructures. DSC-system can also be used with other form factors and in other media not related to payments, for example, when requesting a balance. DSC-values can be calculated by DSC-server-generator or on card itself.EFFECT: invention is aimed at preventing fraud "without physical presence of card".21 cl, 6 dwg
