TL;DR: In this paper, a credit card system is presented which has the added feature of providing additional limited use credit card numbers and/or cards, which can be used for a single or limited use transaction, thereby reducing the potential for fraudulent reuse of these numbers and or cards.
Abstract: A credit card system is provided which has the added feature of providing additional limited use credit card numbers and/or cards. These numbers and/or cards can be used for a single or limited use transaction, thereby reducing the potential for fraudulent reuse of these numbers and/or cards. The credit card system finds application to “card remote” transactions such as by phone or Internet. Additionally, when a single use or limited use credit card is used for “card present” transactions, so called “skimming” fraud is eliminated. Various other features enhance the credit card system, which will allow secure trade without the use of elaborate encryption techniques. Methods for limiting, distributing and using a limited use card number, controlling the validity of a limited use credit card number, conducting a limited use credit card number transaction and providing remote access devices for accessing a limited use credit card number are also provided.

Card management system and method

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of registering a credit card user's credit card information by credit card management organization is proposed. But the method requires the user to provide authorization to the management organization to obtain the card users' credit report from a credit reporting bureau.
Abstract: A method of registering a credit card user's credit card information by a credit card management organization. A card user accesses the card management computer system in a computer network. The method provides a user interface whereby the user grants authorization to the card management organization to obtain the card user's credit report from a credit reporting bureau. The method further transmits a request for the user's credit report to a credit reporting bureau and automatically downloads the user's credit report when received. The method further parses the credit report to determine a card issuer for each card on the credit report using a database of card issuer aliases. The method then fully or partially automatically registers each card with the user's account in the card management association and then presents the opportunity to the user to review and edit each card.

TL;DR: In this article, a payment card or other device (e.g., mobile telephone) is provided with a magnetic emulator operable to communicate data to a magnetic stripe read-head.
Abstract: A payment card or other device (e.g., mobile telephone) is provided with a magnetic emulator operable to communicate data to a magnetic stripe read-head. A user can utilize buttons located on the card to perform activities that would otherwise be performed at an ATM, payment card reader, or by a waitress. A user can provide instructions on a card to accelerate a transaction. The information a user enters can be communicated to a point-of-sale device. For example, a user can enter into his/her card that the user desires $100 withdrawal from a checking account. The user can also enter his/her PIN into the card. The user can swipe his/her card into an ATM and instantly be provided with the desired $100.

TL;DR: Survey on biometric payment system finds that greater adoption of biometrics will drive down the cost of biometric readers and thus making it more affordable to small business owners, and also has more advantages as compared with others.
Abstract: In this paper we have survey on biometric payment system. Biometric payment system is used for various kinds of payment system instead of the tension of cards to put with them and to memorize their difficult passwords and pin numbers. Biometric payment system is much safe and secure and very easy to use and even without using any password or secret codes to remember as compared with previous system like creditcard payment system, wireless system and mobile system etc. Biometric payment system is reliable, economical and it has more advantages as compared with others. In daily life the usage of credit cards, check card for shopping, bus card, subway card for traveling, student card for library and department, and many kinds of cards for unlimited purposes and so on. So problem is that a person has to take many cards and has to remember their passwords or secret codes and to keep secure to take with him all time. So the biometric payment system will solve this problem. Greater adoption of biometric payment system will drive down the cost of biometric readers and thus making it more affordable to small business owners. We really need alternate payment systems. This "perpetual toll" to credit card companies has to stop.

Double recognizing method by means of telephone number and identification code for online credit card transactions over the internet

[...]

Chung-Yu Lin
15 Apr 2008
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a double recognizing method by means of telephone number and identification code for online credit card transactions over the internet, in which the credit card holder not only registers a self-chosen code by himself/herself for VBV (Verified By VISA) or MSC (MasterCard SecureCode) network identity verification but also registers another set of "telephone number and ID code" by himself or herself for serving as an exclusive personal double identity recognizing information.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a “double recognizing method by means of telephone number and identification code for online credit card transactions over the internet,” in which the credit card holder not only registers a “self-chosen code” by himself/herself for VBV (Verified By VISA) or MSC (MasterCard SecureCode) network identity verification but also registers another set of “telephone number and identification code” by himself/herself for serving as an exclusive personal double identity recognizing information for online credit card transactions. The credit card issuing bank registers and stores the set of “telephone number and identification code” on a double recognizing database after checking truth of the related identity certificate provided by the credit card holder. When the credit card issuing bank handles the online credit card transaction of the credit card holder over the network, the credit card issuing bank not only proceeds the check on the “self-chosen code” used in the original VBV or MSC verification system but also performs the double check on the “telephone number and identification code” used in the telecommunications transceiving processor platform of the internal credit card double recognizing computer system, for example by sending out a short message to the credit card holder for requesting him/her to immediately reply by another short message to his/her “telephone number and identification code.”

TL;DR: This paper found that credit card revolvers are significantly more likely to use debit than convenience users who repay their balances each month and there was no significant difference between these two types of credit card users in their use of check or cash.
Abstract: Approximately half of credit card holders in the United States regularly carry unpaid credit card debt. These so‐called “revolvers” exhibit payment behavior that differs from that of those who repay their entire credit card balance every month. Previous literature has focused on the adoption of debit cards by people who carry credit card balances, but so far there has been no empirical analysis exploring the relationship between revolving behavior and patterns of payment use, such as substitution away from credit cards to other payment methods. Using data collected in the 2005 Survey of Consumer Payment Preferences, we explore the relationship between revolving credit card balances and payment use. We find that credit card revolvers are significantly more likely to use debit and less likely to use credit than convenience users who repay their balances each month. There is no significant difference between these two types of credit card users in their use of check or cash. The two groups differ in their perceptions of payments as well as in their payment behavior: revolvers are significantly less likely to view debit as superior with respect to ease of use and acceptability, but more likely to see debit as superior with respect to control over money and budgeting.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for interchange adjustment as it relates to private label accounts involves enabling a private label card account with a partner by a card issuer through a card association network with a special program fee that is greater or less than a pre-determined interchange fee established by the card association; issuing a private label card by the card issuer to a cardholder and establishing an associated private label card account for the cardholder; and receiving data for a transaction by a processing system of the card association. The card association processing system calculates and collects the established interchange fee on behalf of the card issuer and sends the transaction data to the card issuer, which calculates a difference between the interchange fee and the special program fee and sends an adjustment back seamlessly through the card association network for credit or debit to an account of the partner.
