TL;DR: In this paper, a usage promotion method for use with a payment card data interchange system is presented. But the method is not suitable for the use of credit card interchange systems, since it requires manual verification of transactions.
Abstract: A usage promotion method for use with a payment card data interchange system in which a computer examines card transaction data files to select transactions conforming to specified criteria. The computer eliminates arbitrarily all but a fraction of the selected transactions, selects winning transactions by using the bytes of the computer's system clock, and produces a verifiable list of winning transactions which, after manual verification, are used to create credits to the accounts of the card holders of the winning transactions.

TL;DR: In this article, a card to be used is first discriminated as to whether the card is a credit card or a debit card on the basis of data recorded on the card, and then a necessary credit card processing including card authorization is effected.
Abstract: A card to be used is first discriminated as to whether the card is a credit card or a debit card on the basis of data recorded on the card. In the case of a credit card, a necessary credit card processing including card authorization is effected. In the case of a debit card, a necessary debit card processing including immediate payment processing of an amount of money for transaction is efffected.

TL;DR: A credit card system for providing verification of authority of a credit card bearer to use the credit card for a credit transaction is described in this article, where initial authorization of card use is given to the authorized user upon selection by the user of one of a set of supplemental characters appearing on the card as the authorized users private identifier.
Abstract: A credit card system for providing verification of authority of a credit card bearer to use the credit card for a credit transaction. Initial authorization of card use is given to the authorized user upon selection by the user of one of a set of supplemental characters appearing on the card as the authorized user's private identifier. Presentation of the card at a point of sale initiates a check of this private identifier against a supplemental character identified by the presenter of the card as his/her private identifier.

TL;DR: The SuperSmart Card is a powerful credit-card-sized computer that fits into a wallet and promises to take over many of the jobs of transaction-support systems, redistributing vast amounts of data-processing work.
Abstract: Credit cards with computer chips in them, which allow users to give merchants detailed financial information without contacting central banks, are described. The SuperSmart Card is a powerful credit-card-sized computer that fits into a wallet and promises to take over many of the jobs of transaction-support systems, redistributing vast amounts of data-processing work. The card's electronics, user-friendly features, and security features are examined. Field-testing in Japan, which began in Dec.1986, is discussed. >

TL;DR: In this paper, a card authorization terminal for effecting card authorization processing for a large transaction amount of money with communications with a host computer but card pseudo-authorization processing without communications with the host computer, is presented.
Abstract: In a card authorization terminal for effecting card authorization processing for a large transaction amount of money with communications with a host computer but card pseudoauthorization processing for a small transaction amount of money without communications with the host computer, transaction data used for pseudoauthorization processing are once stored in a memory unit and then transmitted to the host computer during communications with the host computer for card authorization processing. Further, in the case of transactions of small amounts of money, only some transactions extracted at random are processed for card authorization.

TL;DR: In this article, the maintenance information is collected via processing parts 15W17 and these maintenance information are written in the card 20 by the reader/writer 13, and then a normal transaction is carried out with a normal card and this normal mode is changed to a maintenance mode via a mode switching means 21 when a maintenance card 20 is confirmed.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To simplify maintenance jobs with an automatic teller machine by setting a maintenance mode for a maintenance card and writing maintenance information in the card after deciding whether the input card is equal to a normal card or a maintenance card. CONSTITUTION: When a card is put into an automatic teller machine through a card slit, the ID code of the card is read by an IC card reader/writer 13. A main control part 9 decides whether the read ID code belongs to a normal card or a maintenance card. Then a normal transaction is carried out with a normal card and this normal mode is changed to a maintenance mode via a mode switching means 21 when a maintenance card 20 is confirmed. Then the maintenance information are collected via processing parts 15W17 and these maintenance information are written in the card 20 by the reader/writer 13. COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio

TL;DR: In this paper, a card is inserted into the card insertion slot 13 of a card terminal device and a card kind discriminating means decides whether the inserted card is a gift certificate card or a prepaid card.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To enable sales processing by one card terminal device by specifying a user for a prepaid card according to a password number, etc., and calculating the amount of a tax for a gift certificate card, and thus totalizing the proceeds distinctively between the gift certificate card and prepaid card. CONSTITUTION: When a card is inserted into the card insertion slot 13 of a card terminal device 11, a card kind discriminating means decides whether the inserted card is a gift certificate card or prepaid card. Then, the proceeds are totalized distinctively in a gift certificate or prepaid card sales totalization file. Further, the amount of a tax is calculated for the gift certificate card and the user is specified for the prepaid card. Consequently, the sales processing is performed by one card terminal device for both the gift certificate card and prepaid card and the operation efficiency of selling service which uses cards is improved greatly. TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose to perform transaction processing without providing proper information in an IC card by providing a program board in which the proper processing program at every transaction opponent of a card is stored in such a way that it can be mounted loadably/unloadably on an information processing part.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To perform a transaction processing without providing proper information in an IC card by providing a program board in which the proper processing program at every transaction opponent of a card is stored in such a way that it can be mounted loadably/unloadably on an information processing part. CONSTITUTION: A card reader/writer 21 by which the read and write of the card are performed, and the program board 22 in which the transaction program proper to each card manufacturer and data, etc., are stored are provided. One or more boards 22 are provided, and they can be mounted loadably/unloadably on a CPU10. Therefore, it is not required to store the program, etc., in a data storage area in the IC card. Also, when a request to perform the transaction processing is issued by the card, the processing is performed based on the transaction program or the data stored in the board 22. And when the processing program is changed, it is possible to respond immediately to the change by exchanging the board 22. COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio

TL;DR: This work generalizes the use of cards 2 to 1 chip, with the level of security associated with bank card type of chip, organizing a shipment A, B Security blank smart cards in customers B wishing to are program specific applications.
Abstract: We generalize the use of cards 2 to 1 chip, with the level of security associated with bank card type of chip, organizing a shipment A, B Security blank smart cards in customers B wishing to are program specific applications. The system consists in sending from the client by separate paths 8, 9 of the blank smart card itself and a key 7 programmatic access to this card. To avoid further risks, the access key is itself encrypted 11 and 14 can not be deciphered by a deciphering body held by the client. The programming of the card then can be assured only if the card is facing 10 to the decrypted key.
