TL;DR: A tree-bark scoring apparatus adapted for transport and operation aboard a moving, dirigible and speed controllable prime mover is described in this article, where the tree is used as a scoring device.
Abstract: A tree bark scoring apparatus adapted for transport and for operation aboard a moving, dirigible and speed controllable prime mover.
TL;DR: In this article, an improved portable powered tool for removing bark from living pine trees was described, which was used for inducing oleoresin flow by known chemical means, using a lightweight, chainsaw-type engine to power a specially designed set of blades partially enclosed in a housing.
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved portable powered tool for removing bark from living pine trees preparatory to inducing oleoresin flow by known chemical means. This tool utilizes a lightweight, chainsaw-type engine to power a specially designed set of blades partially enclosed in a housing designed to provide multiple guides for producing the type cut necessary to properly prepare a tree for collection of naval stores and to provide a method for discharging debris away from the operator and work area.
TL;DR: An improved power bark hack as mentioned in this paper includes a motor of any suitable type which drives one end of an elongated connecting rod mounted in a co-extensive housing which also serves as the tool handle.
Abstract: An improved power bark hack including a motor of any suitable type which drives one end of an elongated connecting rod mounted in a co-extensive housing which also serves as the tool handle. The cutter is mounted at the free end of the connecting rod which extends out from the handle or housing. Bearing means, such as buttons made of Teflon which are easily replaced in use, are mounted in the end of the housing closely adjacent the end of the connecting rod carrying the cutting tool, whereby the rotary motion imparted by the motor to the drive end of the connecting rod is changed to substantially pure reciprocatory motion at the cutter blade end.
