TL;DR: In this article, a spherical graphite cast iron part, consisting of 2.6-4.0wt C, 1.5-3.5wt Si, 0.1-1.0wm Mn and 0.10wmt Mg, is subjected to an austenitizing treatment where it is heated at 850-1,000 deg.C for 4hr or less, and then rapidly cooled to 220-260deg.C and then held at the temperature for 30min or more.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To manufacture spherical graphite cast iron parts which are excellent in face pressure resistance, fatigue resistance, and seizure resistance by applying shot- peening following austempering treatment to a spherical graphite cast iron part of a specific composition with Mo and Cu. CONSTITUTION:A spherical graphite cast iron part, consisting of 2.6-4.0wt% C, 1.5-3.5wt% Si, 0.1-1.0wt% Mn, 0.01-0.09wt% Mo, 0.3-1.5wt% Cu, and 0.02-0.10wt% Mg, besides Fe, is subjected to an austenitizing treatment where it is heated at 850-1,000 deg.C for 4hr or less, and then to austempering treatment where it is rapidly cooled to 220-260 deg.C and then held at the temperature for 30min or more. Then, shot-peening treatment is applied to the high-hard surface of the cast iron part so treated in order to further raise its fatigue strength.
