Publication Guide
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is one of the world's largest engineering societies, with more than 150,000 members across some 148 countries. It was formed in 2006 by merging the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE, founded 1871 as the Society of Telegraph Engineers) and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE, dating to 1884). As a UK registered charity, the IET reinvests publishing income back into the engineering community.
For authors, the IET's defining move came in January 2021: it partnered with Wiley and converted its entire research-journal portfolio to fully gold open access. Today the IET publishes 48 fully open-access journals on the IET Research Hub within Wiley Online Library, spanning electrical and electronic engineering, power and energy, communications, control, signal and image processing, computer science, and cyber-physical systems. The portfolio has recorded more than 35 million downloads since the 2021 open-access transition. Open access and APCs
The IET is a gold-OA-only publisher: since 2021 there are no subscription or hybrid IET journals, and every accepted article is published open access, typically under a CC BY licence.

Peer review process
- Model: single-anonymized peer review is the default across the portfolio; submissions go to independent expert referees, and the journal's editorial board makes the final decision.
- Revisions: authors are commonly asked to revise and respond to referee reports before acceptance.
- Turnaround: varies by title; Electronics Letters is built for rapid decisions on short papers, while full-length research titles take longer.
- Ethics: the IET is a COPE member and follows COPE guidance on misconduct and retractions.
How to submit
- Pick the journal. Browse the IET Research Hub on Wiley Online Library and check each title's aims and scope under its About tab.
- Read the author guidelines. Formatting, structure, and referencing requirements (IET numbered style) sit under the journal's Contribute tab.
- Prepare your manuscript. Use the IET template for your target journal on SciSpace to match the required format.
- Submit via the journal's peer-review system. Use the Submit Your Manuscript link on the journal page - most IET titles run on Wiley's submission platforms (ScholarOne, with some titles migrating to Wiley's newer Research Exchange system); the journal page tells you which.
- Track and revise. The submission system provides status updates through review, revision, and decision.
Ethics and integrity
The IET is a COPE member and applies COPE-aligned policies on authorship, plagiarism, and retractions across all 48 journals. As a registered charity (England & Wales no. 211014; Scotland no. SC038698), it reinvests surpluses into the engineering community rather than distributing profit. Articles are published under Creative Commons licences, with authors retaining copyright.
