Publication Guide
FASEB - the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology - is one of the oldest coalitions in US life science. Founded in 1912 and headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, it federates 21 member societies (including the American Physiological Society, the American Association of Immunologists, and the Genetics Society of America) representing more than 100,000 researchers. Alongside its advocacy and conference work, FASEB publishes two peer-reviewed journals in partnership with Wiley: The FASEB Journal, its selective hybrid flagship, and FASEB BioAdvances, a fully open-access, soundness-based journal. Both are hosted on Wiley Online Library.

Which FASEB journal fits your paper?
With only two titles, the decision is simpler than at a large commercial publisher - but the two journals serve genuinely different papers.

What FASEB publishes
- The FASEB Journal - FASEB's flagship, publishing original research, reviews, and hypothesis articles across the full spectrum of experimental biology and biomedicine: physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, pharmacology, and related fields. Indexed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science.
- FASEB BioAdvances - an international, fully open-access journal dedicated to sound science across biological and biomedical research. It accepts traditional research articles as well as methods papers, null-result studies, and replications - work judged on rigor rather than perceived novelty.
FASEB's 21 member societies publish their own journals independently (for example, the American Physiological Society and ASBMB portfolios); those titles are not FASEB journals.
Open access & APCs
FASEB offers the standard Wiley-hosted routes. Fees below reflect recent price lists; Wiley revises APCs annually, so always check the journal's fee page before submitting.

Licenses for open-access articles are CC BY by default, and Wiley's automatic waiver and discount policy applies to corresponding authors in eligible low- and middle-income countries.
Peer review
Both journals use single-anonymized peer review: reviewers know the authors' identities, but not vice versa. The FASEB Journal applies significance-based selection - papers must represent a meaningful advance for a broad experimental-biology readership. FASEB BioAdvances reviews for scientific soundness, which typically means a faster, more predictable path to decision for solid work that is not headline-grabbing. Editorially rejected FASEB Journal manuscripts may be offered transfer to BioAdvances with reviews attached.
How to submit
- Pick the journal. Use the decision table above; when in doubt about scope, check recent issues on Wiley Online Library.
- Read the author guidelines. Each journal has its own guidelines page on faseb.onlinelibrary.wiley.com covering article types, length limits, and data requirements.
- Format your manuscript. References follow Vancouver style. SciSpace hosts formatted templates for FASEB titles at scispace.com/formats/faseb.
- Submit via ScholarOne. Both journals use ScholarOne Manuscripts (Research Manager) for submission and peer review.
- Choose your OA route at acceptance. Hybrid authors elect OnlineOpen in Wiley Author Services; TA-eligible authors are prompted automatically.
Ethics and integrity
FASEB's journals operate under Wiley's publishing-ethics framework and follow COPE guidelines; FASEB participates in COPE, OASPA, and STM good-practice frameworks through its publishing program. Standard requirements apply: disclosure of competing interests, ethics approval for human and animal research, ORCID for corresponding authors, and data availability statements. Retractions and corrections follow COPE procedures.
