The Electrochemical Society (ECS) is the definitive scholarly society for electrochemistry and solid-state science and technology. Founded in 1902 in Philadelphia as the American Electrochemical Society, it now serves roughly 8,000 scientists and engineers in more than 85 countries from its headquarters in Pennington, New Jersey. If your research touches batteries, fuel cells, corrosion, electrodeposition, sensors, or semiconductor science, ECS journals are among the most natural homes for your paper.

ECS publishes four peer-reviewed journals — the flagship Journal of The Electrochemical Society (JES, in continuous publication since 1902), ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology (JSS), and two Gold open-access titles launched in 2022, ECS Advances and ECS Sensors Plus — alongside Interface magazine and the ECS Transactions proceedings series. Since 2020 the entire ECS Digital Library has been published and hosted with IOP Publishing on IOPscience, which also brings ECS titles into IOP's institutional open-access agreements.

• Journal of The Electrochemical Society — the flagship, published continuously since 1902 and among the most highly cited journals in electrochemistry and solid-state science. Hybrid: subscription articles are free to publish; OA is optional.
• ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology (JSS) — launched 2012 for solid-state science, electronic materials and devices. Hybrid, same fee structure as JES.
• ECS Advances — Gold OA journal (2022) spanning both electrochemistry and solid-state science.
• ECS Sensors Plus — Gold OA journal (2022) for sensor science across electrochemical, optical, QCM and related detection approaches.
• Interface — the quarterly member magazine, plus ECS Transactions and ECS Meeting Abstracts for conference output.
• Historical letters titles — Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters, ECS Electrochemistry Letters, and ECS Solid State Letters — are no longer accepting submissions but remain fully archived and citable in the ECS Digital Library.

ECS is unusual among society publishers for its Free the Science initiative (launched 2015): a long-term plan to make the whole ECS Digital Library free to read and free to publish. In practice, four OA routes exist today:

Subscription (non-OA) publication in JES and JSS remains free. OA articles are published under CC BY or CC BY-NC-ND, varying by journal, with authors retaining copyright. APCs are revised periodically, so confirm the current fee on the journal's IOPscience page before submitting.

• Model: single-anonymized peer review across the ECS journals, managed by ECS technical editors who are active researchers in each topical area.
• Turnaround: JES reports a median of about 35 days from submission to first decision after review; the Gold OA titles target similar speed.
• Selectivity: JES and JSS apply significance-based selection; ECS Advances and ECS Sensors Plus emphasize technical soundness with broad scope.

2. Prepare your manuscript — ECS uses a numbered citation style; templates for JES, JSS and the Gold OA titles are available on SciSpace.
3. Submit via ScholarOne Manuscripts (ECS journals run on the ScholarOne / Manuscript Central platform, e.g. mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/jes-ecs).
4. Choose your access route — subscription (free) or open access, applying member discounts, ECS Plus credits, or a transformative agreement at acceptance.
5. Track and revise through ScholarOne; accepted papers go online on IOPscience.

ECS is a COPE member and follows COPE guidance on authorship, plagiarism, corrections and retractions across its journals. Data availability statements are encouraged, and the society's technical-editor model keeps editorial decisions with working scientists rather than professional staff alone.
