The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) is Spain's national research council and its largest public research institution, founded in 1939 and headquartered in Madrid. Through its publishing house, Editorial CSIC (CSIC Press), it publishes around 40 peer-reviewed journals - Editorial CSIC currently lists 41 titles - spanning the natural sciences and technology, the arts and humanities, and the social sciences, with particular depth in Spanish, Iberian, and Latin American scholarship.

What makes CSIC unusual among publishers of this size is its funding model: every journal is diamond open access. Articles are free to read from the moment of publication with no embargo, and publication is free for authors - there are no article processing charges of any kind. CSIC journals are organized into three broad areas on the revistas.csic.es platform. Use the table below to orient yourself.

Around 40 journals hosted on the revistas.csic.es platform (Open Journal Systems), grouped as:

• Ciencia y Tecnología - roughly a dozen science and technology titles, including Grasas y Aceites, Scientia Marina, Materiales de Construcción, Informes de la Construcción, and Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research.
• Arte y Humanidades - the largest group, around twenty titles including Emerita, Sefarad, Al-Qanṭara, Revista de Indias, Trabajos de Prehistoria, and Revista de Filología Española.
• Ciencias Sociales - titles such as Arbor, Estudios Geográficos, and Revista Internacional de Sociología.

Many humanities titles publish primarily in Spanish (often alongside English and other languages), while several STM titles - notably Grasas y Aceites and Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research - publish in English. Editorial CSIC also publishes scholarly books (CSIC Libros).

Because there are no fees at all, CSIC journals satisfy most funder open-access mandates by default, and articles are also deposited in the institutional repository Digital.CSIC.

CSIC journals use external peer review managed by each journal's editorial board. At Grasas y Aceites, the stated process is single-anonymized review by at least two external referees, with a third called in when needed; the editorial board may desk-reject manuscripts outside scope or format before review. Several titles hold the FECYT quality seal, and Editorial CSIC follows a published Good Practice Code; CSIC Press is listed as an OASPA member and the catalog records COPE membership.

1. Pick the journal. Browse the portfolio at revistas.csic.es and read the Focus and Scope page of the candidate title.
2. Prepare your manuscript. Download the journal's Word template (SciSpace also hosts CSIC formats) and follow the author guidelines - most titles require an authorship form, ORCID iDs, and CRediT contribution statements.
3. Register and submit via OJS. Each journal runs its own Open Journal Systems site (e.g., grasasyaceites.revistas.csic.es); register as an author and upload a Word file plus an identical PDF for review.
4. Suggest reviewers. Several titles ask authors to propose three qualified external reviewers in the comments to the editor.
5. Track and revise. OJS handles review rounds, decisions, and proofs; dates of receipt and approval are printed on the published article.

Editorial CSIC operates under a Good Practice Code that all submitting authors must accept, applies plagiarism-detection screening, and publishes per-journal policies on retractions, research data, and AI use. Journals apply the CRediT taxonomy for authorship contributions and require signed authorship declarations. As a public institution, CSIC's publishing program is governed by its own regulatory framework (Norma reguladora de las revistas del CSIC).
