The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) is the definitive US scholarly society for pharmacology, founded in 1908 and based in Rockville, Maryland. Its journal portfolio is small but central to the field: the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (JPET, publishing since 1909), Molecular Pharmacology, Drug Metabolism and Disposition (DMD), and the reviews flagship Pharmacological Reviews, plus two fully open-access titles - ASPET Discovery (launched 2025) and Pharmacology Research & Perspectives (co-owned with the British Pharmacological Society and published by Wiley).

In April 2024 ASPET announced a publishing partnership with Elsevier, and since January 2025 the society-owned journals have been published and hosted on ScienceDirect. ASPET editors, editorial boards, and staff retain full editorial control; Elsevier provides the publishing platform, production, and sales. For authors, the practical changes are a new submission system (Editorial Manager) and access to Elsevier's open-access agreements and waiver programs.

ASPET's scope spans pharmacology, experimental therapeutics, drug metabolism, and toxicology. The four flagship titles publish original research and reviews across receptor pharmacology, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular and cancer pharmacology, ADME science, pharmacogenomics, and translational therapeutics. Pharmacological Reviews is the society's most-cited title and one of the most influential review journals in the discipline. ASPET Discovery broadens the portfolio with a bi-monthly, fully open-access outlet for original research, methods, and negative or confirmatory findings.

ASPET members receive a 25% APC discount on the society's titles. Green OA self-archiving of the accepted manuscript is permitted with a 12-month embargo on the hybrid titles. Authors at institutions with Elsevier open-access (Read & Publish) agreements may have APCs covered - check your library or the ESAC registry. Research4Life waivers apply for eligible low- and middle-income countries. Prices change annually, so confirm on the journal's fees page before submission.

ASPET journals use single-anonymized peer review managed by academic editors from the society's community. Editorial decisions remain entirely with ASPET's editors and boards under the Elsevier partnership. The society is a COPE member, and its journals follow COPE guidance on ethics, corrections, and retractions.

2. Prepare your manuscript. ASPET journals use an author-year citation style; SciSpace formats for ASPET journals are available to speed this up.
3. Submit via Editorial Manager. Since the January 2025 move to Elsevier, all society-owned titles use Editorial Manager (e.g., editorialmanager.com/jpet); the legacy eJournalPress system is retired. Pharmacology Research & Perspectives submits through Wiley's system.
4. Choose your access route (subscription or open access) after acceptance; your choice does not affect peer review.

ASPET is a COPE member and applies COPE-aligned policies on authorship, conflicts of interest, image and data integrity, and retractions. Data-availability expectations follow each journal's guide for authors, and clinical and animal studies must document appropriate ethical approvals.
