With the introduction of WEB browser and java related technologies, network management platforms, applications and agent development are being re-engineered to fit this new framework. Network equipment and software vendors are rushing to adopt WEB related technologies for competitive advantage.

This study proposes a network traffic monitoring system that will support the operation, management, expansion and design of a network system for its users through an analysis and diagnosis of the network-related equipments and lines in the PC-room. The proposed monitoring system is lightweight for its uses under the wireless environment and applies a web-based technology using JAVA to overcome the limits to managerial space, inconveniences and platform dependency and to raise its applicability to and usability on the real network based on performances, fault analyses and their calculation algorithm. The traffic monitoring system implemented in this study will allow users to effectively fulfill the network management including network diagnoses, fault detection, network configuration and design through the web, as well as to help users with their managements by presenting how to apply a simple network.

A design and implementation of network traffic monitoring system for PC-room management

The main protocol that is currently used for managing computer networks is known as SNMP. The main advantages of applying this protocol in computer equipments and networks are its simplicity and widespread usage. Nevertheless, despite these advantages, using this protocol will be faced with serious challenges, especially in networks with a wide range network devices and high traffic rate. There have been provided several techniques in order to overcome problems of the protocol, which one of the best available techniques is a standard under name MTNM that it has been proposed as a solution suite and it has been formed according to distributed architecture, COBRA. This article aim is to provide designing and implementing a proxy based on such a standard. The main task of the proxy is to exploit data by using SNMP commands, in order to locate at available data structures in MTNM solution suite. The results analysis will show the better performance of the proxy than SNMP protocol, based on volume of traffic produced and run time.

Research on a New Network Management Proxy Based on Multitechnology Network Management

Mobile agents (MAs) have been proposed for decentralized network management. This paper explains how Aglets, a Java open-source MA framework, not a proprietary system, can be used for security-enhanced network management, complementing the security of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) version 3. The solution prototyped is a hybrid environment where network management applications use MAs that interact locally with SNMP agents via the SNMP protocol. The implemented class libraries extend the security infrastructure of Aglets, by incorporating cryptographic functions through the Java Cryptography Extension. The extension enables data fields to be encrypted, while code is to be digitally signed. Legacy SNMPv1 and v2 enabled devices, with elementary security, can also be upgraded through this approach, which can effectively avoid a range of attacks. Consideration has been given to auxiliary functionality such as responding to SNMP traps, key distribution, logging, and secure clock synchronization.
