TL;DR: The von Karman vortex-street as discussed by the authors is a well-known model for vortex shedding in fluid flows, where the boundary layer vorticity convects aft and coalesces into discrete swirling vortices in the near wake.

Abstract: Vorticity is generated in the boundary layers of structures in fluid flows. The boundary layer vorticity convects aft and coalesces into discrete swirling vortices in the near wake. These vortices generate oscillations of the near wake. Feedback from the near wake oscillations to the separation points leads to the periodic shedding of vortices with alternate-sign circulation that form the famous von Karman vortex-street. Structural vibration and sound can synchronize with the periodic vortex shedding. Vortex shedding can induce damaging large-amplitude vibrations of flexible structures in fluid flows and produce intense acoustic pressures in ducts.

Flow separation control over an airfoil using dual excitation of DBD plasma actuators
Abbas Ebrahimi,Majid Hajipour +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated flow separation control over an airfoil using dual excitation of DBD plasma actuators as a novel approach, where the wake mode frequency (i.e., the frequency of natural vortex shedding) was used to excite separated shear layers at both the upper surface and the trailing edge, simultaneously.

Implicit multigrid computation of unsteady flows past cylinders of square cross-section
TL;DR: In this paper, an implicit, multigrid scheme has been extended to treat unsteady flows using the concept of temporal subiteration (or dual-time stepping, as it sometimes is called).

Introduction to fluid dynamics
TL;DR: In this paper, the basic equations of fluid mechanics are stated, with enough derivation to make them plausible but with-out rigour, and the physical meanings of the terms in the equations are explained.
