Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze value engineering and evaluate its application on construction projects. The evolution and spreading of value engineering are described and the methods used to implement it are analyzed. The purpose of its application in the construction industry is identified and the benefits that follow its implementation during the several phases of a construction project are evaluated. The successful results of its implementation are illustrated through the analysis of the value engineering efforts that took place during the several stages of design of the Regional Transportation Center, Woburn, Massachusetts.
