Abstract: Word processing applications usually contain their own facilities to store and manipulate data. If documents could be ‘native’ represented in a database management system, all available database services could be used automatically. In these paper first, we discuss possible implications of a database based editor. Second, we introduce the architecture of such an editor, and third, we explain the most important transaction of such a system, the insert of characters.
