Abstract: A new variable-rate coding technique is presented for two-dimensional constraints. For certain constraints, such as the (0, 2)-RLL, (2, infin)-RLL, and the "no isolated bits" (n.i.b.) constraints, the technique is shown to improve on previously- published lower bounds on the capacity of the constraint.

Bounds on the Rate of 2-D Bit-Stuffing Encoders
Ido Tal,Ron M. Roth +1 more
TL;DR: A method for bounding the rate of bit-stuffing encoders for 2-D constraints is presented, and a related encoder is considered which is quasi-stationary in order to formulate linear requirements that must hold on the probabilities of the constrained arrays that are generated by the encoder.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for bounding the rate of bit-stuffing encoders for 2-D constraints is presented, where the authors consider a related one which is quasi-stationary.
New Bounds on the Capacity of Multidimensional Run-Length Constraints
Moshe Schwartz,Alexander Vardy +1 more
TL;DR: The open question is settled: what is the rate at which the capacity of (0, k)-RLL systems converges to 1 as k → ∞?

The Secret Arithmetic of Patterns: A General Method for Designing Constrained Codes Based on Lexicographic Indexing.
TL;DR: This paper presents a systematic method that guides the code designer to build any constrained code based on lexicographic indexing once the finite set of data patterns to forbid is known, and shows how near-optimal constrained codes be designed and used to further reduce complexity.

- 14 Jun 2015
TL;DR: This paper proposes another coding scheme, combining a weak constraint on vertical 1 0 1 patterns with a systematic error-correcting code, that can mitigate vertical ICI errors while achieving a higher overall coding rate, provided that the horizontal ICI error probability is sufficiently small.

Undecidability and Nonperiodicity for Tilings of the Plane.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered the problem of finding a set of tiles that can be used to tile the plane by translation, assuming that the tiles are to be placed with their vertices at lattice points and abutting edges have the same color.

System for encoding and decoding data in machine readable graphic form
Ynjiun P. Wang
- 16 Mar 1992
TL;DR: In this article, a system for representing and recognizing data in machine readable graphic image form in which data to be encoded is entered into the system and a processor encodes the data into a two-dimensional bar code symbol and generates transfer drive signals representative of the symbol.

Unilateral Markov fields
TL;DR: In this paper, the existence of stationary unilateral Markov fields on infinite square lattices has been proved for both binary and Gaussian variables, and a detailed analysis of the properties of the stationary Markov field on finite lattices is given.

Two-dimensional low-pass filtering codes
Jonathan Ashley,Brian Marcus +1 more
TL;DR: A framework for designing encoders that transform arbitrary data sequences into two-dimensional arrays satisfying certain constraints, in particular, constraints that guarantee arrays with limited high spatial frequency content is described.
