Quantitative monitoring of gene expression patterns with a complementary DNA microarray.
TL;DR: A high-capacity system was developed to monitor the expression of many genes in parallel by means of simultaneous, two-color fluorescence hybridization, which enabled detection of rare transcripts in probe mixtures derived from 2 micrograms of total cellular messenger RNA.

R: A Language for Data Analysis and Graphics
Ross Ihaka,Robert Gentleman +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss their experience designing and implementing a statistical computing language, which combines what they felt were useful features from two existing computer languages, and they feel that the new language provides advantages in the areas of portability, computational efficiency, memory management, and scope.

An evaluation of the performance of cDNA microarrays for detecting changes in global mRNA expression
Huibin Yue,P. Scott Eastman,Bruce Wang,James Minor,Michael H. Doctolero,Rachel Nuttall,Robert Stack,John W. Becker,Julie R. Montgomery,Marina Vainer,Rick Johnston +10 more
TL;DR: The results presented in this report demonstrate the reproducible performance of the cDNA microarray technology platform and the methods provide a useful framework for evaluating other technologies that monitor changes in global mRNA expression.
Dendritic Nucleic Acid Structures
TL;DR: A physical-mathematical model of a new class of dendrimers, constructed entirely from unique nucleic acid monomers that are designed such that sequential hybridization adds successive layers of monomer in a geometric expansion of both mass and free single-stranded sequences, called arms, at the surface.

Functional Genomics of the Endocrine Pancreas: The Pancreas Clone Set and PancChip, New Resources for Diabetes Research
L. Marie Scearce,John Brestelli,Shannon K. McWeeney,Catherine S. Lee,Joan M. Mazzarelli,Deborah F. Pinney,Angel Pizarro,Christian J. Stoeckert,Sandra W. Clifton,M. Alan Permutt,Juliana Brown,Douglas A. Melton,Klaus H. Kaestner +12 more
TL;DR: This work has assembled a nonredundant set of 3,400 clones representing genes expressed in the mouse pancreas or pathways known to be affected by diabetes, and demonstrated the usefulness of this clone set by preparing a cDNA glass microarray, the PancChip, and using it to analyze pancreatic gene expression from embryonic day 14.5 through adulthood in mice.
