Abstract: The seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in Romanian children is currently unknown. A serological survey was undertaken to determine T. gondii infection among children from Western Romania. Serum samples of 441 children (aged 1-18 years) were screened for T. gondii immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M antibodies. The overall T. gondii seroprevalence was 16.6% and tended to increase with age. Seroprevalence was 18.4% in children from rural regions and 14.7% in those from urban regions. T. gondii antibodies were demonstrated in 19.5% of females and 13.3% of males. This report provided the first seroepidemiological data and evaluated the demographic risk factors regarding T. gondii infection in children from Western Romania. Our results may serve as a basis for a future prevention program for toxoplasmosis.

TL;DR: The results showed that in the Western Region of Romania T. gondii seroprevalence in pregnant women declined from 43.79 to 38.81% in the last ten years, and there was an increasing tendency of serop revalence related to the age of pregnant women.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors evaluated the prevalence of T. gondii IgG, IgM and IgA antibodies in women of reproductive age residing in Western Romania and assessed the value of adding a T.gondii IGA test to the serologic panel for the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis, including the detection of a recently acquired infection.

TL;DR: Inadequately cooked or cured meat is the main risk factor for infection with toxoplasma in all centres and preventive strategies should aim to reduce prevalence of infection in meat, improve labelling of meat according to farming and processing methods, and improve the quality and consistency of health information given to pregnant women.

TL;DR: Congenital toxoplasmosis poses a substantial burden of poor health globally and should be included in future updates of the global burden of disease and the corresponding data should be used to support public health interventions to reduce disease burden.
Toxoplasma gondii Seroprevalence in the United States 2009–2010 and Comparison with the Past Two Decades
TL;DR: Although T. gondii antibody presence is still relatively common, the prevalence in the United States has continued to decline and the results compared with two previous NHANES studies suggest that the number of people infected with the parasite is decreasing.

TL;DR: In participants aged ⩾20 years, Toxoplasma seropositivity was associated with living in the Northwest, living in urban areas, low educational level, consumption of raw pork, keeping a cat, and not having occupational contact with clients or patients, and for younger participants, risk factors were keeping sheep or cattle, Consumption of raw unwashed vegetables and putting sand in the mouth.
