TL;DR: This paper provides a solution to the ramification problem based on an extension of the situation calculus and the work of McCain and Turner to study the case in which two or more actions execute concurrently, a particularly complex problem.

Abstract: In this paper, we study the ramification problem in the setting of temporal databases. Standard solutions from the literature on reasoning about action are inadequate because they rely on the assumption that fluents persist, and because actions have effects on the next situation only. In this paper, we provide a solution to the ramification problem based on an extension of the situation calculus and the work of McCain and Turner. More specifically, we study the case in which two or more actions execute concurrently, a particularly complex problem. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The Effects of Central Bank Communication on Financial Stability: a systematization of the empirical evidence
Rolf Knütter,Benjamin Mohr,Helmut Wagner +2 more
- 01 Jan 2011
TL;DR: This article conducted a systematic review of the empirical evidence on the financial stability effects of a range of different communication channels, with statements and press conferences being seemingly the most effective channels of central bank communication.
Fast continuous‐discrete DAF‐filters
TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that the Fokker-planck-equation can be solved numerically by using distributed approximating functionals (DAFs), and the approximation is very accurate and resolves the time interval between observations in one calculation step.
Quasi-continuous maximum entropy distribution approximation with kernel density
Thomas Mazzoni,Elmar Reucher +1 more
TL;DR: This paper extends maximum entropy estimation of discrete probability distributions to the continuous case, leading to a non-parametric estimation of a probability density function, preserving the maximum entropy principle.
Monetary policy and asset prices: When cleaning up hits the zero lower bound
Wolfram Berger,Friedrich Kissmer +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, it is argued that optimal monetary policy may involve an interest rate increase if the ZLB threatens to become a binding constraint in the aftermath of an asset price bust.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider statistical mechanics as a form of statistical inference rather than as a physical theory, and show that the usual computational rules, starting with the determination of the partition function, are an immediate consequence of the maximum-entropy principle.

Fast Pattern Matching in Strings
TL;DR: An algorithm is presented which finds all occurrences of one given string within another, in running time proportional to the sum of the lengths of the strings, showing that the set of concatenations of even palindromes, i.e., the language $\{\alpha \alpha ^R\}^*$, can be recognized in linear time.
