TL;DR: In this paper, the authors probed temporal integration for two distinct motion stimuli that were either visible or rendered invisible using continuous flash suppression and found that when invisible, both the direction of apparent motion and the gender of point-light walkers were processed only when defined across short time periods (i.e., respectively 100 ms and 1000 ms).

Information integration without awareness
TL;DR: This work suggests that consciousness holds an enabling role in establishing integrative mechanisms that can later operate unconsciously, and in allowing wider-range integration, over bigger semantic, spatiotemporal, and sensory integration windows.

Integration without awareness: expanding the limits of unconscious processing
TL;DR: This article used a binocular rivalry technique known as continuous flash suppression to induce perceptual suppression in a group of human observers and found that visual awareness is not needed for object-background integration or processing the likelihood of an object to appear within a given semantic context, but may be needed for dealing with n...

The Crack of Dawn: Perceptual Functions and Neural Mechanisms that Mark the Transition from Unconscious Processing to Conscious Vision
Victor Lamme
- 15 Jan 2014
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine the role of visual functions in the transition from processing in the dark to having a conscious visual percept, and examine to what extent these functions correlate with the presence or absence of conscious vision.

Is Neuromorphic MNIST neuromorphic? Analyzing the discriminative power of neuromorphic datasets in the time domain
TL;DR: This study assesses if neuromorphic datasets recorded from static images are able to evaluate the ability of SNNs to use spike timings in their calculations, and compares N-MNIST and DvsGesture on two STDP algorithms that can classify only spatial data, and STDP-tempotron that classifies spatiotemporal data.

The Psychophysics Toolbox.
TL;DR: The Psychophysics Toolbox is a software package that supports visual psychophysics and its routines provide an interface between a high-level interpreted language and the video display hardware.
The VideoToolbox software for visual psychophysics: transforming numbers into movies.
TL;DR: The VideoToolbox is a free collection of two hundred C subroutines for Macintosh computers that calibrates and controls the computer-display interface to create accurately specified visual stimuli.

Visual perception of biological motion and a model for its analysis
TL;DR: The kinetic-geometric model for visual vector analysis originally developed in the study of perception of motion combinations of the mechanical type was applied to biological motion patterns and the results turned out to be highly positive.
The distinct modes of vision offered by feedforward and recurrent processing.
TL;DR: An analysis of response latencies shows that when an image is presented to the visual system, neuronal activity is rapidly routed to a large number of visual areas, but the activity of cortical neurons is not determined by this feedforward sweep alone.
