Abstract: Provided are a surface treating method for a cathode active material, a cathode active material obtained thereby, and a cathode and a lithium secondary battery comprising the cathode active material. According to the present invention, a cathode active material is obtained with enhanced electrochemical characteristics such as charge/discharge property, durability, high rate, thermal stability, etc. through surface treating of metal fluoride and/or metal oxide, and can thus be employed usefully in a cathode for a lithium secondary battery. The surface treating method for a cathode active material may comprise the steps of: dry-mixing at least one among metal fluoride or metal-containing particles with a cathode active material to prepare a mixture; and sintering the mixture.
