Abstract: Since the concept of a surface collective excitation was first introduced by Ritchie, surface plasmons have played a significant role in a variety of areas of fundamental and applied research, from surface dynamics to surface-plasmon microscopy, surface-plasmon resonance technology, and a wide range of photonic applications. Here we review the basic concepts underlying the existence of surface plasmons in metallic structures, and introduce a new low-energy surface collective excitation that has been recently predicted to exist.

Theory of surface plasmons and surface-plasmon polaritons
TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical description of the many-body dynamical electronic response of solids is presented, which underlines the existence of various collective electronic excitations at metal surfaces.
Light trapping in mesoporous solar cells with plasmonic nanostructures
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the mechanisms of plasmonic enhancement in mesoporous solar cells, including far-field coupling of scattered light, near field coupling of localized electromagnetic fields, hot electron transfer, and plasman resonant energy transfer.
Theory of epsilon-near-zero modes in ultrathin films
TL;DR: In this paper, the physics of the epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) mode, which is supported by a nanolayer at the frequency where the dielectric permittivity vanishes, has been thoroughly investigated and clarified.
Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Induced by the Fungus Penicillium citrinum
TL;DR: In this paper, a green process for the extracellular production of silver nanoparticles synthesized and stabilized using Penicillium citrinum isolated from soil was evaluated. And the results indicated that the current approach suggests that rapid synthesis of nanoparticles of silver nitrate would be suitable for developing a biological process for mass scale production of formulations.
Green chemical synthesis of gold nanoparticles by using Penicillium aculeatum and their scolicidal activity against hydatid cyst protoscolices of Echinococcus granulosus.

TL;DR: The current investigation indicated that applying biogenic AuNPs may be considered as a potential scolicidal agent for cystic hydatid disease, however, further studies are required to evaluate the efficacy of AuNPS in vivo.

Self-Consistent Equations Including Exchange and Correlation Effects
Walter Kohn,L. J. Sham +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Hartree and Hartree-Fock equations are applied to a uniform electron gas, where the exchange and correlation portions of the chemical potential of the gas are used as additional effective potentials.
Inhomogeneous Electron Gas
P. C. Hohenberg,Walter Kohn +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the ground state of an interacting electron gas in an external potential was investigated and it was proved that there exists a universal functional of the density, called F[n(mathrm{r})], independent of the potential of the electron gas.

Helical microtubules of graphitic carbon
TL;DR: Iijima et al. as mentioned in this paper reported the preparation of a new type of finite carbon structure consisting of needle-like tubes, which were produced using an arc-discharge evaporation method similar to that used for fullerene synthesis.
