Abstract: A spacer for separating bones of a joint, the spacer includes a first endplate configured to engage a first bone of the joint, and comprising a ramped surface; a tissue engaging subassembly disposed in a compartment of the first endplate; a second endplate configured to engage a second bone of the joint; and a frame subassembly that extends between the first endplate and the second endplate. The frame subassembly comprises a drive nut, a drive shaft coupled to the drive nut, a ramped carriage coupled to the drive shaft, wherein the ramped carriage comprises a ramped surface operable to engage the ramped surface of the first endplate, and an actuation bar coupled to the drive nut comprising a plate operable to engage the tissue engaging subassembly.

Intervertebral spinal implant
Jody L. Seifert
- 08 May 2018
TL;DR: In this article, an intervertebral implant for implantation in a treated area of an interverttebral space between vertebral bodies of a spine is provided, where the upper surface and the lower surface of the implant each have a contact area capable of engaging with anatomy in the treated area, and the upper and lower surfaces define a throughhole having an inner surface extending through the spacer body.

Geared cam expandable interbody implant and method of implanting same
Jonathan M. Dewey,William D. Armstrong +1 more
- 28 Jan 2016
TL;DR: In this article, a geared cam expandable spinal implant is described. Rotational motion of rotating portion is translated into linear motion of a yoke, which moves geared cams at the distal end of the implant to mate with, and walk along, teeth of corresponding racks.
