Abstract: A method, apparatus and article of manufacture is provided for debugging within a computer system network. The method uses XML dataflows from/to a console for debugging of instructions located in a server, which has a database management system for retrieving data from a database stored in an electronic storage device coupled to the server. The method uses a debugger manager at the console for commanding and monitoring debugging operations of the server-side instructions, performed by a debugger engine, and uses XML command and status report dataflows for providing a database communication interface between the debugger manager and the debugger engine. Some preferred embodiments use stored procedures in addition to the XML dataflows, and the debugger manager executes in a multi-threaded environment.

Collaborative software debugging in a distributed system with symbol locking
Cary Lee Bates
- 20 Apr 2011
TL;DR: In a distributed system that includes a debug server and debug clients coupled for data communications through a data communications network, collaborative software debugging includes receiving, from the debug clients, application-level messages, including receiving from a symbol locking debug client, a request to lock one or more symbols from value modification as discussed by the authors.

Collaborative software debugging in a distributed system with client-specific display of local variables
Cary Lee Bates
- 10 Nov 2010
TL;DR: In a distributed system that includes a debug server and debug clients coupled for data communications through a network, collaborative software debugging includes presenting a client-specific GUI that including a client specific local variables pane; detecting user input including detecting, by at least one particular debug client, user input setting the clientspecific local variables panes to display local variables of a stack frame associated with an active routine owned by the particular client; generating and sending to the debug server application-level messages; receiving clientspecific debug results, including: displaying, in the particular debug clients's client-Specific local variables

Method and apparatus for implementing a network based debugging protocol
Shahriar Rahman
- 15 Nov 2007
TL;DR: In this article, a technique for automatically triggering debug sessions across a network is described, where a first code module in a first computing device determines whether a detected event constitutes an automatic start network debug session condition, wherein the detected event is an occurrence of significance to the first code modules, and wherein the automatic start debugging session condition is a set of one or more start criterions of which the event is a part.

Monitoring execution of an hierarchical visual program such as for debugging a message flow
Neta Aizenbud-Reshef,Yael Shaham-Gafni,Michael Starkey,Marc-Thomas Schmidt,Gabi Zodik,Stephen James Todd +5 more
- 27 Dec 2000
TL;DR: In this paper, an execution monitoring tool, a method and a computer program product for monitoring execution of an hierarchical visual program is presented. But the execution progress reports are sent to an execution controller which maps the report data to its own representation of the hierarchical program to determine the current position within an execution program.
