A review of the harvesting of micro-algae for biofuel production
John J. Milledge,Sonia Heaven +1 more
TL;DR: There appears to be no one method or combination of harvesting methods suited to all micro-algae and harvesting method will have a considerable influence on the design and operation of both upstream and downstream processes in an overall micro-algal biofuel production process.
A comprehensive review on harvesting of microalgae for biodiesel – Key challenges and future directions
TL;DR: This paper has summarized the key challenges in conventional and advanced harvesting techniques and also provided the scope thereof and would positively offer a well-defined roadmap in choosing foreseeable harvesting technology for cost-effective microalgal biofuel development.

Disc stack centrifugation separation and cell disruption of microalgae: A technical note
John J. Milledge,Sonia Heaven +1 more
TL;DR: The use of a disc stack centrifuge to achieve a combined cell harvesting, cell disruption and oil separation process is briefly examined and discussed in this paper, where the authors show that the use of the disc stack can significantly reduce the operational energy used in cell harvesting and oil extraction.
Theory of Filtration
Max S. Willis,Steve Bybyk,Ray Collins,Jagadeeshan Raviprakash +3 more
- 01 Jan 1987
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a fundamental analysis which provides a filtration mechanism that can be used to select filters and filter media, which can be applied to filter selection.

Synthesis of separation system flowsheels
TL;DR: In this article, a hierarchical decision procedure for the synthesis of separation system flowsheets for vapor-organic liquid, aqueous liquid, and solid mixtures is proposed, and an expanded set of synthesis rules that can be used to obtain a first design is discussed.
