Abstract: Software reliability is one of the most important characteristics of software quality. Its measurement and management technologies during the software life-cycle are essential to produce and maintain quality/reliable software systems. In this chapter, we discuss software reliability modeling and its applications. As to software reliability modeling, hazard rate and NHPP models are investigated particularly for quantitative software reliability assessment. Further, imperfect debugging and software availability models are also discussed with reference to incorporating practical factors of dynamic software behavior. And three software management problems are discussed as an application technology of software reliability models: the optimal software release problem, statistical testing-progress control, and the optimal testing-effort allocation problem.

Two-Dimensional Software Reliability Assessment with Testing-Coverage
Shinji Inoue,Shigeru Yamada +1 more
- 14 Jul 2008
TL;DR: A two- dimensional SRGM describing a software reliability growth process on the two-dimensional time-space which consists of testing-time and testing-coverage is proposed, and it is seen that the model has a better performance than representative one-dimensional SRGMs in terms of mean squared errors.

Discrete software reliability assessment with discretized NHPP models
Shinji Inoue,Shigeru Yamada +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the discrete nonhomogeneous Poisson process models have better performance than discretized deterministic software reliability growth models which have been proposed so far.

Yoshinobu Tamura,Shigeru Yamada +1 more
- 01 Oct 2007
TL;DR: This paper proposes a new approach to software reliability assessment by creating a fusion of neural networks and a software reliability growth model and finds the optimal total version-upgrade time based on the total expected software maintenance effort.
