Abstract: A signal conversion for incremental sensors or the like is described, in which sensor signals of corresponding position or angular position are supplied with a particular input frequency via channels A, B to a phase discriminator which generates counting pulses which are supplied to further hardware counters for detecting the displacement or angle information. The basic object is here to increase the input frequency of the sensor channels without reducing the number of counting pulses and thus the accuracy and without exceeding the limit frequency of the hardware counters. This is achieved by the signal sequence of channel A and channel B, subdivided into periods, being additionally supplied to a decoder which precedes the hardware counter, the lowest 2 bits in question containing the absolute displacement or angle information.
