Abstract: PURPOSE:To surely prevent the frictional surface of a separation drum from abutting on paper sheets in a hopper when a paper sheets separating and carrying-out means stops CONSTITUTION:A part of the outer peripheral surface of the separation drum 30 which constitutes the paper sheets separating and carrying-out means 3 is formed into the frictional surface 30a formed with a member which has a large coefficient of friction like rubber, and the remaining surface is formed with a slip surface 30b which has an extremely small coefficient of friction: and the system is provided with a rotation detecting means which consists of a photodisk 40 and a photosensor 41 and detects the rotational position of the separation drum 30 so as to detect the rotational position of the separation drum 30 and determine its stop position when the separation drum 30 stops, and this rotation detecting means prevents the frictional surface 30a of the separation drum 30 from stopping while abutting on the paper sheets in the hopper 1
