Abstract: A selective motion vector prediction method and a motion estimation method and a device thereof applicable to a scalable video coding (SVC) system are disclosed. The selective motion vector prediction method includes the steps of performing an inter prediction to obtain a first motion vector prediction center; performing an inter-layer motion prediction to obtain a second motion vector prediction center; in the case the first and the second motion vector prediction center satisfying a preset condition, using the same reference data to calculate the rate-distortion costs for the inter prediction and the inter-layer motion prediction; and using the rate-distortion costs as a basis to select one of the inter prediction and the inter-layer motion prediction for applying to the SVC system. Thus, the same reference data is shared to enable reduced memory access in the process of coding and accordingly, reduced cost of and power consumption by memory access.

Selective mirroring of media output
Khosro Mohammad Rabii
- 13 Nov 2012
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe techniques for mirroring native media output of a source device via a different destination device via an output interface associated with the destination device, where the source device may change how the source devices encodes at least one region associated with a media element, in order to freeze media output associated with that region.

Display mode-based video encoding in wireless display devices
Khosro Mohammad Rabii,Sumeet Singh Sethi +1 more
- 23 Nov 2011
TL;DR: In this article, display mode based video encoding is proposed to reduce power consumption in a source device of a Wireless Display (WD) system. But the source device does not select an encoding process based on whether the video to be encoded is in a static display mode or a dynamic display mode.

- 26 Sep 2013
TL;DR: In this paper, a processor derives predication mode data associated with one of the plurality of sub-blocks based at least on a selection rule, upsamples the derived prediction mode data and the first layer block, and associates the upsampled prediction modes data with each upsampling sub-block of the upsamspled first-layer block.

TL;DR: In this article, a flag bit is coded to indicate which predictive motion vector is chosen only if it is not possible to infer the layer from which the predicted motion vector for the current block comes, such as when both predictive motion vectors are substantially the same, or only one of the vectors is reliable or available.
