Douglass E. Post,R. Behrisch +1 more
- 31 Mar 1986
TL;DR: In the areas of plasma physics, atomic physics, surface physics, bulk material properties and fusion experiments and theory, the following topics are presented: the plasma sheath; plasma flow in the sheath and presheath of a scrape-off layer; probes for plasma edge diagnostics in magnetic confinement fusion devices; atomic and molecular collisions in the plasma boundary; physical sputtering of solids at ion bombardment; chemical sputtering and radiation enhanced sublimation of carbon; ion backscattering from solid surfaces; implantation, retention and release of hydrogen isotopes; surface erosion by

D.E. Post,R. Behrisch,B. Stansfield +2 more
- 01 Jan 1986
TL;DR: In the last fifteen years, great strides have been made in controlled fusion research as discussed by the authors, and the plasma temperatures, beta, and confinement needed for a reactor have been approached in recent experiments.

Erosion of Graphite by High Flux Hydrogen Plasma Bombardment
Dan M. Goebel,J. Bohdansky,Robert W. Conn,Y. Hirooka,Brian LaBombard,W.K. Leung,Richard E. Nygren,J. Roth,George Tynan +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the total erosion yields of several types of graphites have been measured during high ion flux exposure in the PISCES plasma facility, and the results show that the chemical sputtering of graphite limiters or divertor plates in tokamaks will vary by a factor of only two to three over a limiter temperature range of 0 to 800°C if the incident ion energy is less than 100 eV as is observed in to-kamak experiments.
