Abstract: This chapter provides an explanation of the qualitative research employed in the multiple studies reported in the book. These include semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, thematic analysis of online content (including both crowdfunding campaigns and patient feedback narratives) and auto-ethnography. Throughout, I reflect on my own positionality, as a patient, service user and citizen of the NHS, and on the politics of claiming to speak for what ‘Britain’ feels.
