Abstract: A method and apparatus for compensating for written-in repeatable runout in a disc drive is provided. Compensation values are determined through an iterative learning process in which parameters of the learning process such as learning gain, servo loop gain, etc. are functions of the iteration number. The learning process also employs a nominal double integrator model of an actuator of the disc storage system. The learning process is also a function of a zero-phase low-pass filter.

Method for improved repeatable run out learning in a disk drive
Zhi Wang,Hien T. Chu,Jenghung Chen +2 more
- 31 Oct 2006
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for determining fundamental-frequency repeatable runout (1FRRO) coefficients in a disk drive is presented. But the method is restricted to the case where the transducer head is caused to move in a substantially constant velocity motion across a selected portion of the tracks of the rotating magnetic disk in response to a control signal.

Repeated servo runout error compensation in a disc drive
Philip R. Woods
- 10 Jun 1999
TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and associated method are disclosed for compensating for repeated servo runout error in a disc drive. But the compensation values are determined by measuring current applied to the actuator motor as the head follows a selected track, twice integrating the sequence of current measurement samples to determine a second integral of current, and using the second integral value to determine the compensation value.
