Abstract: A method and apparatus for compensating for written-in repeatable runout in a disc drive is provided. Compensation values are determined through an iterative learning process in which parameters of the learning process such as learning gain, servo loop gain, etc. are functions of the iteration number. The learning process also employs a nominal double integrator model of an actuator of the disc storage system. The learning process is also a function of a zero-phase low-pass filter.

Repetitive error correction method for disk-drive spindle motor control systems
Edward Ying,Pantas Sutardja +1 more
- 15 Aug 2008
TL;DR: In this article, a repetitive error correction factor is determined using a computational model which predicts timing variations, and the correction factor can then be used to cancel the effect of actual timing variations upon the spindle motor.

TL;DR: In this article, a hard disk drive control module has an error calculator module configured for determining a difference between an estimated tracking error signal in response to a first feed-forward signal and an actual track error signal of the magnetic transducer in reaction to the first feedforward signal.

Method for repeatable run-out compensation
Pantas Sutardja
- 19 Jun 2006
TL;DR: In this paper, a control system that includes repeatable run-out (RRO) compensation comprises a control module that determines an error of the control system, and an RRO compensation module receives the error, determines a repeatable component of an output response, and updates a target response of the controller based on the repeatability component of the output response.
