Chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of different basil essential oils chemotypes from Togo
TL;DR: In vitro microbiological experiments revealed that only the methyleugenol and methyle Eugenol/t-anethole chemotypes were active against tested fungi and bacteria, supportive of the potential of both basil oil chemotypes for use as active ingredients in natural antibiotic drugs.

Industrial enzyme applications.
TL;DR: The development of enzymes with improved properties for established technical applications and in the production of new enzymes tailor-made for entirely new areas of application where enzymes have not previously been used are studied.

Bacterial lipases: an overview of production, purification and biochemical properties.
TL;DR: The latest trend in lipase research is the development of novel and improved lipases through molecular approaches such as directed evolution and exploring natural communities by the metagenomic approach.

Directed evolution of industrial enzymes: an update
Joel R. Cherry,Ana Fidantsef +1 more
TL;DR: The use of enzymes in industrial processes can often eliminate the use of high temperatures, organic solvents and extremes of pH, while at the same time offering increased reaction specificity, product purity and reduced environmental impact.

Improving enzyme properties: when are closer mutations better?
TL;DR: Study of mutations that improve enzyme properties reveals that in many, but not all, cases closer mutations are more effective than distant ones, and instead of mutating the entire enzyme, focusing mutations near the substrate-binding site might dramatically increase the success rate in many directed evolution experiments.
