Abstract: A method of processing a digital document (100) which comprises content and a pattern of position identification markings comprises providing at least one electronic record of a digital document from which a second document can be produced containing substantially the same content as the digital document. The electronic record, which is preferably stored on a server (304) connected to a network, also includes information relating to the pattern printed in the digital document. The method further includes the steps of receiving a document request, the request including pattern information retrieved from the digital document (100) using a pattern reading device (300), accessing the electronic record which includes pattern information that corresponds to the retrieved pattern information and transmitting the electronic record in response to the receipt of the document request. The transmitted information may be used to generate a copy of the printed digital document (100) which includes any markings made on the document (100) with a digital pen (300).

Identifier for use with digital paper
Henwell Chou
- 08 Mar 2005
TL;DR: In this article, a digital pen connectable to the computer is compatible with the digital paper for recording pen strokes made by the digital pen and the location of the pen strokes relative to the writing surface.

Strokes localization by m-array decoding and fast image matching
Jian Wang,Yingnong Dang,Qiang Wang,LiYong Chen,Xiaoxu Ma +4 more
- 14 Jan 2005
TL;DR: In this paper, the path of a pen tip is determined by decoding the associated maze pattern and by matching the captured images with document images, if the position coordinates of any frame associated with a stroke cannot be determined from m-array decoding, the frames are transformed and then matched with an area of a document image.

Embedding a pattern design onto a liquid crystal display
Chunhui Zhang,Jian Wang,Qiang Wang +2 more
- 30 Jun 2005
TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system for presenting data on a medium for capture by an input device is described, which embeds a symbol design such as an embedded interaction code (EIC) in an image on a display screen, such as a liquid crystal display (LCD).

Digital documents, apparatus, methods and software relating to associating an identity of paper printed with digital pattern with equivalent digital documents
Ira Goldstein,Jose Antonio Magana,Manuel Angel Albarran Moyo,Jean-Michel Combe +3 more
- 07 Apr 2004
TL;DR: In this article, a method of associating in computer memory a digital electronic version of printed human-discernible content of a printed document comprising a sheet having a machine-readable pattern adapted to enable the position of a digital pattern reading device to be determined and the identity of a sheet upon which the content is printed, the method comprising: printing the content onto a sheet using a printer, said sheet comprising a pre-patterned sheet that has been pre-printed with said pattern; transferring a machinereadable identity code between said printer and said sheet at around the time of printing said

Absolute optical position determination
Oral Sekender
- 18 Dec 1995
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed the use of a data surface (e.g., paper) formatted with a position-related coding (figure 1a) for indicating X-Y coordinates capable of reflecting a frequency of light.

Network linking method using steganographically embedded data objects
Geoffrey B. Rhoads
- 27 Jul 1995
TL;DR: A given data object can effectively contain both a graphical representation to a network user and embedded information, such as the URL address of another network node, thereby to permit the object itself to serve as an automated hot link as mentioned in this paper.

Record with encoded data
Ynjiun P. Wang,Jerome Swartz,Daniel R Mcglynn +2 more
- 31 May 1993
TL;DR: A record contains a graphic image and an information area which are interrelated to discourage misuse of the record as discussed by the authors, which can then be altered when an action regarding the record takes place.

Recording of information
Christer Fåhraeus
- 26 May 2000
TL;DR: In this paper, a two-dimensional position code which codes coordinates for a plurality of positions on the surface is used to enable the recording of a desired information alternative by reading the position code for a position in the code area associated with the desired alternative.

Encoding and decoding a message within an image
Kenneth H. P. Chang
- 28 Apr 2001
TL;DR: In this article, a method for decoding a message embedded in a pattern of pixels was proposed. The method includes the steps of determining the pixel values for pixels from the patterns of pixels, determining binary values from the pixels values for the patterns, and determining the embedded message from the binary values, which can be used to decode embedded web site address from an image with a foreground image and the embedded web-site address.
