Abstract: PURPOSE:To extract only part of an original picture and to facilitate picture edit so as to move the extracted picture to a desired position on recording paper by wiring a bit corresponding to the deletion to an area other than that corresponding to the edit area of a bit map memory and reading the content of the bit map memory in synchronism with the scanning of an original picture. CONSTITUTION:A signal read from a bit map memory 68 is converted into a function code by a RAM table 72 and inputted to a data processing circuit 75. The data processing circuit 75 decodes the function code to process a picture data according to the decoding. That is, when the area in an area R1 of an original D1 is scanned, the function code corresponding to no processing is supplied and the function code corresponding to deletion is supplied when the area at the outside of the area R1 is scanned, then the picture only the part of the area R1 is outputted on the recording paper. In this case, the scanning speed of the scanning section A in the subscanning direction is selected as a reciprocal of the smaller magnification in the magnifications in both the main and sub scanning directions of the areas R1 and R2.
