Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a picture data compression-transmission system at low cost by using a data compressing method for binary picture data for the data compression of a picture data having gradation. CONSTITUTION:A memory of 2,623 bytes is provided in the P/S block converting part 11 of a data compressing device. As seeing the equi-order bits of the respective picture-element data of an input picture data A in the direction of address, the entire one-block-share of data is constituted of eight lines each of which is constituted by 2,623 bits. The data is read out sequentially from each line, and a serial data B is inputted to a compressing part 12. The part 12 consists of an MH encoding circuit whose encodable run length number is 2,623, compresses the serial data B by means of run-length encoding, and outputs an encoded data C. A code selector 13 attaches an EOB code to every one block share of the data C to make it a data D. The data D is inputted to an I/F 15 through a B/M 14 and is converted to a transmission data E to be transmitted.
