Corruption is an endemic problem in the world, and in Brazilian history there is a common sense that it has always existed ingrained in Brazilian public management. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of corruption on the management of public affairs, seeking to study the media's vision of why corruption exists, what the results of this practice are for the State, and how we could avoid such a practice in public administration. Taking advantage of the largest anticorruption operation ever launched in Brazil's history, Operation Lava Jato, an analysis will be made of the effects and consequences of corruption as explained in the reports in Folha de São Paulo newspaper and in the Roda Viva program. These two media were chosen because they have a more prominent journalistic quality and a large public, being used by several categories of professionals, since Public Managers need to be updated on the information consumed by the general public, as well as understand the political and social effects of corruption in public management and the public opinion view. The methodology used was qualitative research with the purpose of deepening the understanding of how the media explains the phenomenon of corruption, seeking in the data the understanding about the forms of corruption and deviation, the effects of corruption in democracy and forms to hinder the action of the corruptors. The results achieved were the demonstration of the harmfulness of corruption, as well as the demonstration of the causes and effects of a corruption scheme, and it is up to the managers to ensure the transparency of the public accounts for the population and that the widespread dissemination by the press of the punishment of corruption has aided in the change of popular thought and thus corroborated with the perfection of democracy.

Open data are important for adding legitimacy and transparency to public sciences. These data have also a potential to be used as a first approach for scientific investigation, such as spatial evaluation of ecosystem services. This paper presents a methodological approach to evaluate the trade-offs between agriculture and supporting ecosystem services based on spatial analysis and open data. The study area is an important agricultural production region in Bahia State, Brazil. The framework was able to establish the spatial interactions between agriculture and ecosystem service provision, while the regional scale was useful in supporting guidelines regarding sustainable land use for agricultural areas.
