Performance of a spread spectrum packet radio network link in a Poisson field of interferers

Abstract: Results on the modeling of interference in a radio communication network and performance measures for the link as a function of distance are presented. It is assumed that a transmitter-receiver pair in a radio network is affected by a set of interferers, using the same modulation and power, whose positions are modeled as a Poisson field in the plane. Assuming a 1/r/sup gamma / propagation power loss law, the probability distributions for the noise at the receiver are found to be the stable distributions. Results are given for the probability of symbol error and link capacity as a function of the distance between the transmitter and receiver for direct sequence and frequency hopping spread spectrum schemes. It is found that the frequency hopping schemes are inherently superior and their performance is not dependent on the synchronization of the hopping times for the different users. >

- 25 May 2008
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors apply stochastic geometry to study the spatial distribution of white spaces in the presence of a random primary network with homogeneous nodes and show that with a self-interfering constraint on the primary network, a large portion of the total area will be detected as the white space regardless of the density of the primary transmitters.
On the downlink interference in heterogeneous wireless DS-CDMA networks
TL;DR: It is shown that the total downlink interference in heterogeneous wireless DS-CDMA networks follows an asymptotically self-similar (as-s) process and the impact of the analysis developed in this paper in designing appropriate mechanisms for controlling radio resources in such networks is discussed.

TL;DR: The interference temperature limit of the protocols is not proportional to the data capacity, hence factors in the physical implementation play an important role in the robustness of the channel.

Yang Han,Kah Chan Teh +1 more
TL;DR: Analytical bit-error probability expressions of an asynchronous fast frequency-hopped multiple- access system over fading channels with multiple-access interference modeled as alpha-stable noise show that the two non-linear diversity-combining methods significantly outperform the linear-combined receiver.
