Abstract: We provide symbol-error-rate (SER) performance analysis for a multi-node wireless network employing a decode-and-forward cooperation strategy An approximate expression for the SER of an N relay network with M-ary phase-shift-keying (M-PSK) signalling is derived at high enough signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) The approximation hinges on ignoring terms in the SER which are of order higher than (N+1) in the SNR The validity of the derived approximate SER is justified through computer simulations for networks with different numbers of relays The simulation results show that the approximation is tight at high SNR and that the cooperation protocol can achieve full diversity order equal to the number of cooperating terminals

Multinode Cooperative Communications in Wireless Networks
TL;DR: The analysis shows that the optimum power allocation at different nodes follows a certain ordering, and that the power-allocation scheme at high SNR does not depend on the channel quality of the direct link between the source and the destination.
Cognitive multiple access via cooperation: Protocol design and performance analysis
TL;DR: The analysis reveals that the throughput region of the proposed cognitive multiple-access strategy is a subset of its maximum stable throughput region, which is different from random access, where both regions are conjectured to be identical.
Performance of Decode-and-Forward Cooperative Communications Over Nakagami- $m$ Fading Channels
Yinman Lee,Ming-Hung Tsai +1 more
TL;DR: This paper analyzes the symbol error rate (SER) performance of decode-and-forward (DF) cooperative communications over Nakagami-m fading channels and obtains some perceptions of choosing a good relay for enhancing the cooperation and makes clear about how the included NakagAMI fading figures and channel variances affect the SER performance.

Cooperative diversity in wireless networks: Efficient protocols and outage behavior
TL;DR: Using distributed antennas, this work develops and analyzes low-complexity cooperative diversity protocols that combat fading induced by multipath propagation in wireless networks and develops performance characterizations in terms of outage events and associated outage probabilities, which measure robustness of the transmissions to fading.

User cooperation diversity. Part I. System description
TL;DR: Results show that, even though the interuser channel is noisy, cooperation leads not only to an increase in capacity for both users but also to a more robust system, where users' achievable rates are less susceptible to channel variations.

Distributed space-time-coded protocols for exploiting cooperative diversity in wireless networks
J.N. Laneman,Gregory W. Wornell +1 more
TL;DR: This work develops and analyzes space-time coded cooperative diversity protocols for combating multipath fading across multiple protocol layers in a wireless network and demonstrates that these protocols achieve full spatial diversity in the number of cooperating terminals, not just theNumber of decoding relays, and can be used effectively for higher spectral efficiencies than repetition-based schemes.
Linear diversity combining techniques

- 29 Apr 2003
TL;DR: This paper provides analyses of three types of diversity combining systems in practical use: selection diversity, maximal-ratio diversity, and equal-gain diversity systems, finding that the simplest possible combiner will generally yield performance essentially equivalent to the maximum obtainable from any quasilinear system.

TL;DR: It is shown that in the largest majority of cases, these error-rate expressions can be put in the form of a single integral with finite limits and an integrand composed of elementary functions, thus readily enabling numerical evaluation.
