Abstract: The heating effect of a microwave susceptor can be improved by providing a pattern of microwave transparent areas in the susceptor. The transparent areas are preferably circles having a diameter of about 0.5 inch. The distance between adjacent circles is preferably about 0.5 inch. The susceptor may be used to brown and crispen the crust of frozen pizza heated in a microwave oven. The crust of the pizza is browner, especially at its central area, than the crust of pizza heated using a conventional susceptor.

Gas permeable microwave reactive package
Thomas D. Pawlowski
- 11 Jul 1988
TL;DR: A disposable microwave browning and crisping package having a flat substrate and a microwave reactive layer affixed over one surface of said substrate, the microwave interactive layer, when subjected to microwave energy, converting microwave energy to heat in an amount sufficient to brown and crisp food in heat transfer relationship has at least one aperture to allow gases and vapors generated from cooking foods such as large pie crusts to traverse said laminate thereby allowing the food product to remain in close proximity to the reactive heater.

Microwave oven package
D. Gregory Beckett
- 19 Feb 1991
TL;DR: In this article, a laminate structure for microwave cooking of foodstuffs for consumption is proposed, which consists of an outer layer polymeric material, an outer layers of microwave transparent material, a grid layer having an electroconductive surface surrounding transmissive apertures located between the outer layers, and a thin layer of electconductive material of sufficient thickness so that a portion of incident microwave energy is converted to thermal energy also located between outer layers.
