Pathways between early visual processing and functional outcome in schizophrenia.
TL;DR: Both social perception and negative symptoms statistically mediate the connection between visual processing and functional outcome, however, given the lack of association between social perceptionand negative symptoms, these constructs appear to have an impact on functioning through separate pathways.

Abstract: Results. First, we found that, similar to social perception, a measure of negative symptoms mediated the association between visual information processing and functional status. Second, we found that the inclusion of negative symptoms substantially enhanced the explanatory power of the model. Notably, it was the experiential aspect of negative symptoms (avolition and anhedonia) more than the expressive aspect (affective flattening and alogia) that accounted for significant variance in functional outcome, especially in the social component of the construct of functional outcome. Conclusions. Social perception and negative symptoms play relevant roles in functional impairment in schizophrenia. Both social perception and negative symptoms statistically mediate the connection between visual processing and functional outcome. However, given the lack of association between social perception and negative symptoms, these constructs appear to have an impact on functioning through separate pathways.

Social Cognition as a Mediator Variable Between Neurocognition and Functional Outcome in Schizophrenia: Empirical Review and New Results by Structural Equation Modeling
TL;DR: Social cognition mediated a significant indirect relationship between neurocognition and functional outcome in schizophrenia, and the results suggest that research should focus on differential mediation pathways.
The current conceptualization of negative symptoms in schizophrenia.
TL;DR: The assessment of the negative symptom dimension has recently improved, but even current expert consensus‐based instruments diverge on several aspects and the use of objective measures might contribute to overcome uncertainties about the reliability of rating scales, but these measures require further investigation and validation.

From Perception to Functional Outcome in Schizophrenia: Modeling the Role of Ability and Motivation
TL;DR: Both ability and motivation appear to be needed for community functioning and can be modeled effectively on the same pathway in schizophrenia, according to theoretically based models of pathways to functional outcome.

New translational assays for preclinical modelling of cognition in schizophrenia: the touchscreen testing method for mice and rats
Timothy J. Bussey,Andrew Holmes,L. Lyon,Adam C. Mar,Kathryn A.L. McAllister,Jess Nithianantharajah,Jess Nithianantharajah,Charlotte A. Oomen,Lisa M. Saksida +8 more
TL;DR: A touchscreen method that satisfies a proposed 'wish-list' of desirables for a cognitive testing method for assessing rodent models of schizophrenia and is capable of detecting not just impairments in function, but enhancements as well, which is essential for testing putative cognitive therapies.

TL;DR: Age, gender, and education had significant effects on the normative data for MCCB in China, which are comparable to those found for the original standardized English version in the U.S. and the Spanish version in Spain.

Cutoff criteria for fit indexes in covariance structure analysis : Conventional criteria versus new alternatives
Li-tze Hu,Peter M. Bentler +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the adequacy of the conventional cutoff criteria and several new alternatives for various fit indexes used to evaluate model fit in practice were examined, and the results suggest that, for the ML method, a cutoff value close to.95 for TLI, BL89, CFI, RNI, and G...

The moderator–mediator variable distinction in social psychological research: Conceptual, strategic, and statistical considerations.
Reuben M. Baron,David A. Kenny +1 more
TL;DR: This article seeks to make theorists and researchers aware of the importance of not using the terms moderator and mediator interchangeably by carefully elaborating the many ways in which moderators and mediators differ, and delineates the conceptual and strategic implications of making use of such distinctions with regard to a wide range of phenomena.
