TL;DR: Ryegrass seed production is highly variable and dependent on climatic factors and competition. The average rate of seed production is 100 seeds plant -1.

Abstract: Ryegrass seed production is highly variable, but is particularly dependent on climatic factors (especially rainfall) and both interand i tra-specific competition (Gramshaw, 1972; Medd et al., 1985). The average rate of seed pro uction is assumed to be 100 = R seeds plant -1 (Gramshaw, 1972). This is significantly below maxi mum seed production (around 1350 seeds plant ) (calculated from data in Pannell et al., 2004), b ut is motivated by the assumed density of wheat (100 plan ts m) that greatly suppresses ryegrass seed production.

An Interior Trust Region Approach for Nonlinear Minimization Subject to Bounds
Thomas F. Coleman,Yuying Li +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a trust region approach for minimizing nonlinear functions subject to simple bounds is proposed, where the trust region is defined by minimizing a quadratic function subject only to an ellipsoidal constraint and the iterates generated by these methods are always strictly feasible.
A Stable and Efficient Algorithm for Nonlinear Orthogonal Distance Regression
TL;DR: This paper describes a method for solving the orthogonal distance regression problem that is a direct analog of the trust region Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, and proves the algorithm to be globally and locally convergent, and performs computational tests that illustrate some differences between ODR and OLS.

RIM: a bioeconomic model for integrated weed management of Lolium rigidum in Western Australia
David J. Pannell,Vanessa Stewart,Anne L. Bennett,Marta Monjardino,Carmel P Schmidt,Stephen B. Powles +5 more
TL;DR: The RIM (resistance and integrated management) model represents a wide diversity of herbicide and non-herbicide options for management of Australia's most important crop weed in the context of the non-irrigated extensive farming system.

Reduced successive quadratic programming strategy for errors-in-variables estimation
I.-B. Tjoa,Lorenz T. Biegler +1 more
TL;DR: A tailored NLP strategy for EVM problems based on a reduced Hessian approach to successive quadratic programming (SQP), but with the decomposition performed separately for each data set, which leads to the elimination of all variables but the model parameters, which are determined by a QP coordination step.

Economic evaluation of strategies for management of herbicide resistance
TL;DR: It is found that the period for which herbicide use can profitably be continued prior to onset of resistance is highly sensitive to the effectiveness of the non-chemical control.
