Abstract: A novel technique called Vertical Data Processing (VDP) for the manipulation of data in digital computers is presented. Multiple data are processed simultaneously one bit at a time using Boolean operations. Many classes of problems appear adaptable to this technique.A hypothetical VDP computer which embodies both VDP and conventional techniques is proposed and its advantages discussed.
