TL;DR: In this article, two cores from the southwestern shelf and slope of Storfjorden, Svalbard, taken at 389m and 1485m water depth have been analyzed for benthic and planktic foraminifera, oxygen isotopes, and ice-rafted debris.

The last Eurasian ice sheets - a chronological database and time-slice reconstruction, DATED-1
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new time-slice reconstruction of the Eurasian ice sheets (British-Irish, Svalbard-Barents-Kara Seas and Scandinavian) documenting the spatial evolution of these interconnected ice sheets every 1000 years from 25 to 10 years and at four selected time periods back to 40 years.

Deglaciation of the Eurasian ice sheet complex.
Henry Patton,Alun Hubbard,Karin Andreassen,Amandine Auriac,Pippa L. Whitehouse,Arjen P. Stroeven,Calvin Shackleton,Monica Winsborrow,Jakob Heyman,Adrian M. Hall +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, a first-order thermomechanical ice sheet model was applied to investigate the retreat of the EISC after 23 ka BP, directly extending the work of Patton et al. (2016) who modelled the build-up to its maximum extent.

Arctic fjords: a review of the oceanographic environment and dominant physical processes
Finlo Cottier,Frank Nilsen,Ragnheid Skogseth,Vigdis Tverberg,Jofrid Skarðhamar,Harald Svendsen +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider the characteristic elements of Arctic fjords and the important dynamical processes and show how the intense seasonality of these regions is reflected in the varying stratification of the Fjords, showing that sea ice has a central role in terms of the fjord salinity which ultimately influences the exchange with oceanic waters.

Timing of massive ‘Fleuve Manche’ discharges over the last 350 kyr: insights into the European ice-sheet oscillations and the European drainage network from MIS 10 to 2
Samuel Toucanne,Sébastien Zaragosi,Jean-François Bourillet,Michel Cremer,Frédérique Eynaud,B. Van Vliet-Lanoë,Aurélie Penaud,Christophe Fontanier,Jean-Louis Turon,Elsa Cortijo,Philip L. Gibbard +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, high-resolution mass accumulation rates (MAR) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) measurements from marine sediment records in the Bay of Biscay (NE Atlantic) have allowed the determination of the timing and the amplitude of the Channel River discharges during glacial stages MIS 10, MIS 8, MIS 6 and MIS 4-2.

Deglaciation of a marine-based ice sheet: Late Weichselian palaeo-ice dynamics and retreat in the southern Barents Sea reconstructed from onshore and offshore glacial geomorphology
TL;DR: In this paper, a five-stage reconstruction of the Late Weichselian deglaciation is proposed, showing that the observed pattern of rapid retreat, with high variability in ice streaming for the marine-based Barents Sea Ice Sheet, is similar to that of the marine based sectors of the late Weichsellian British, Laurentide and West Antarctic Ice Sheets.

A 17,000-year glacio-eustatic sea level record: influence of glacial melting rates on the Younger Dryas event and deep-ocean circulation
TL;DR: In this paper, a global oxygen isotope record for ocean water has been calculated from the Barbados sea level curve, allowing separation of the ice volume component common to all isotope records measured in deep-sea cores.

Origin and consequences of cyclic ice rafting in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean during the past 130,000 years
TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of Earth's orbital parameters on major ice rafting was examined using deep-sea sediment cores recovered from the Northeast Atlantic Ocean in order to elucidate the influence.

Correlations between climate records from North Atlantic sediments and Greenland ice
Gerard C. Bond,Wallace S. Broecker,Sigfus J Johnsen,Sigfus J Johnsen,Jerry F. McManus,Laurent Labeyrie,Jean Jouzel,Jean Jouzel,Georges Bonani +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present records of sea surface temperature from North Atlantic sediments spanning the past 90 kyr which contain a series of rapid temperature oscillations closely matching those in the ice-core record, confirming predictions that the ocean must bear the imprint of the Dansgaard-Oeschger events.

The role of sea ice and other fresh water in the Arctic circulation
Knut Aagaard,Eddy C. Carmack +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine the control of the vertical circulation in the northern seas, and the potential for altering it, by considering the budgets and storage of fresh water in the Arctic Ocean and in the convective regions to the south.

Irregular glacial interstadials recorded in a new Greenland ice core
Sigfus J Johnsen,Sigfus J Johnsen,Henrik Clausen,Willi Dansgaard,K. Fuhrer,Niels S. Gundestrup,Claus U. Hammer,Peter Iversen,Jean Jouzel,Bernhard Stauffer,Jørgen Peder Steffensen +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present results from a new deep ice core drilled at the summit of the Greenland ice sheet, where the depositional environ-ment and the flow pattern of the ice are close to ideal for core recovery and analysis.
